TITANSGRAVE Episode 3 - Danger at the Market

I really like the production values in this show, though I'm not itching to go out and play AGE based on what I've seen. I'd really like if roll20 took some cues from this show: the option to have face cards pop up at the bottom of player's screens (rather than plopping it in the middle of the...

D&D 5E (2014) Theatre of the Mind or Miniatures?

Minis/tokens/pennies, but without a gridded map.

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Failures & House Rules

Both my honest-to-god houserules are in my sig. Beyond that, there's quite a few things that are more like "habitual rulings" that aren't worth enshrining in text. Oh, and I use group initiative.

    D&D 5E (2014) A breakup for the better.

These threads leave me extremely happy that I pursue my gaming online, where I can freely choose not to play with people who rub me the wrong way.

    Unearthed Arcana UNEARTHED ARCANA Index

The UA articles aren't exactly hidden. But that doesn't mean the site is easily navigable for people who don't already know where to go, or to people who aren't already accustomed to the CMS layout used by wotc's sites. Also, the items in the Articles dropdown box seem to be in no particular...

    A New DRAGON+?

Read it. Lost ten minutes of my life, and now I have newfound animosity twoard wotc's marketing team for disrespecting the old mag brands.

    D&D 5E (2014) 101 Random Encounter Inspirations

    75) A kobold levitates up the face of a nearby cliff, disappearing in a hole halfway up the cliff's face. 76) A group of griffins circles a nearby hilltop, occasionally swooping in toward something and then soaring back to rejoin the others.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

Yeah, this. Though I suspect we disagree about what this "perfect" state should look like!

    D&D 5E (2014) Witch Bolt as a cantrip?

Yeah, the language is unfortunately very clear: "When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the initial damage increases by 1d12 for each slot level above 1st." Which sucks--I'd rather have a better spell with no scaling options, or turn this thing into a cantrip.

D&D 5E (2014) Just About Sick Of Darkvision.

Can't speak to FG's DM interface (but I loathe the program as a player.) However, setup is dead simple for this feature on r20. It does still require a subscription, I believe--and doors are a bit of a pain because barring scripts you have to switch to the dynamic lighting layer to delete the...

D&D 5E (2014) Just About Sick Of Darkvision.

It's a hell of a lot of fun. And if you aren't picky about polish, the gm can knock a dynamic lighting map together as quick as drawing on a whiteboard. Not really my preferred playstyle these days, but still: had a lot of fun with it

    The Witcher setting conversion

But that's the heart of the concern--low level wizards don't exist in the fiction. If we put them in, how much of the setting will we lose? I think: a lot, because the power difference between the haves and have-nots is a fundamental theme fueling the darkness of this setting by blurring the...

    The Witcher setting conversion

Pretty cool. My biggest problem, as someone who's only played the computer games and not read the novels, is that wizard magic in this setting is designed for narrative purposes and not for party-based gameplay. (The same as lord of the rings, really.) And that's hard to hack, because it's a...

AMA Russ Morrissey (Morrus) (EN World, EN Publishing, ENnies, WOIN)

I started with 2005, but then hit backspace and replaced with with 2008, which was a bit more of a watershed year. The wordier version of the question I want to ask is: "How would you have done things differently over the last ten years if you'd had a bit of foreknowledge of how the industry was...

AMA Russ Morrissey (Morrus) (EN World, EN Publishing, ENnies, WOIN)

Have you ever considered setting up a pdf storefront to compete with rpgnow, etc.? If it were 2008 again, what would you do differently knowing everything you know now? Which animal is best?

D&D Surges Into Lead In Orr Group Figures

The only way I can make sense of these numbers is to assume that this is a report on the LFG data, rather than an actual survey of extant games/players. That would explain why there are more 5E games than players, because people recruit for their games outside of roll20's LFG system. That...

FANTASY GROUNDS Virtual Tabletop's D&D License!

It seems clear (to me, at least) that they view their product as competing with other steam games, especially the mid-range, sub triple-A products that are DLC-driven. (Think of a Paradox game, for example.) If they aim to compete with roll20 beyond the Steam platform, then they're hiding it...
