    D&D 5E (2014) Cleric-dependant parties

It feels like the game was designed with the assumption that no one is playing a healer. Healing potions are dirt cheap, and the entire "dying" system (including death saves, the medicine skill, healer's kits, etc.) only makes sense in a party without a healer.

D&D 5E (2014) The format of the spell list in the PHB is just plain awful.

Oh, just wait til you see the Monster Manual... Yeah, they dropped the ball pretty hard on all the organizational stuff. Good news: There's plenty of user-created tools for that. Good news(?): They'll run annual surveys to see if people want errata, so we'll definitely get a chance to tell...

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone who got an mm at Gencon want to offer up spoilers to us?

Wow, that sucks. They might as well include a link to Mouseferatu's monster sorter in the second printing.

An idea to make the game feel lighter

In my experience, it doesn't really work. For an experienced player, it means you have to look at three places on the sheet (your ability mod, proficiencies, and proficiency bonus), and add two numbers together. That takes away a few seconds every time you roll, and it would be a lot more...

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone who got an mm at Gencon want to offer up spoilers to us?

How is Appendix A organized? Those of you who have the DM basic rules can see that it's annoyingly alphabetized by the first letter of the name of the monster (Giant Owl; Giant Poisonous Snake; Giant Rat). In the book, is it all nicely in order (Horse, Draft; Horse, Riding; Horse, War)?

D&D 5E (2014) Humans RAW Can Start With multiple 18's

Yes, please. 5e is the era of DM empowerment. The rules in the book are not as important as the DM's decision.

    Building a better medusa

I think this version won't petrify anyone. Face it, this is D&D 5e. If the medusa doesn't petrify you in the first round of combat, she'll be dead before the second round.

D&D 5E (2014) Feats as upward level adjustment

I never understood why they want to limit PC size. I played a 4e campaign with homebrew races, where two characters were Large giant-types, and there was no problem (aside from occasional comedy when they can't fit inside a shop). The benefits of being Large are few in 5e: You can carry more...

    D&D 5E (2014) Stealth in 5E

I wouldn't be surprised if the DMG has a section saying "The stealth rules in the PHB are intentionally vague to give you more latitude. Here are a few ways you can run it..."

D&D 5E (2014) Rogues are badass mounted combatants...

I don't think I'd allow that. The rogue is good at disengaging, the horse isn't necessarily.

    D&D 5E (2014) Stealth in 5E

Indeed. I think I'd allow a stealth check. If you fail, they can pinpoint your position. Even if you succeed, they still know you're there. In game terms, you are heavily obscured, but you are not hidden.

D&D 4E Gettin' a bit wistful working on stuff for my 4e campaign...

On the upside, I can't wait to see what 5e monsters the community creates!

    D&D 5E (2014) Stealth in 5E

Sounds right to me. I'll add a few more: 5. "Hidden," in layman's terms, means "they don't know you're there." 6. If you fail your Stealth check, they know you're there. They can't necessarily pinpoint you (like if you're invisible), but you're not hidden. 7. If you do something dumb like hide...

    D&D 5E (2014) Necromancer Games 5E Monster Teaser #2 - The Aranea!

The stat block looks pretty awkward compared to the official 5e stat blocks. I wonder if they'll update it to match the WotC layout if/when 5e has an open license.

D&D 5E (2014) Raw ability checks - proficiency or not?

If you have proficiency in something, you get to add your proficiency bonus to it. If you don't, you don't.

    D&D 5E (2014) Encounter XP # of Monster Multiplying

That rule also means the "level 2 after the first day of adventuring" thing doesn't actually work. A 1st-level character's daily budget is 300, which is how much it takes to get to level 2. But if those encounters have multiple monsters, they're "worth" 300 XP, but the player actually gets less...

That was Jon Schindehette, and he indeed no longer works for Wizards.

    D&D 5E (2014) Falchion & Finesse?

Wait, I thought a falchion was more like a broad long knife / short sword, like a machete? Unless there's some D&D-specific weapon that someone called a "falchion" because they couldn't think of a synonym for a two-handed sword?

D&D 5E (2014) Random Thread (See what I did there...?)

I love those personality trait tables. My first two characters I ever created in 5e were a wizard and a fighter. For the wizard, I already had a concept, but the suggested traits help me nail down the character. For the fighter, I just picked the recommended background and rolled randomly for...

D&D 5E (2014) How Often Should Advantage Be Granted?

The "players come up with an excuse to have advantage" thing is how you spend inspiration. Normally, you have to use up some resource (an action, or positioning, or whatever) and usually make a die roll to get advantage on a future roll.
