    Which is better?

Brigandine is called "studded leather" in D&D for some stupid reason. In D&D 5th edition, scale armor has better base AC, but it limits your Dexterity bonus and penalizes your Stealth skill. So a character with really good Dexterity might prefer "studded leather."

D&D 5E (2014) Ravenloft - Tarot to Tarokka Deck conversion?

Here's what I did: Low Deck: Use Ace thru 10. Swords = Swords (obviously) Coins = Pentacles/Coins (make sure not to accidentally read these as "stars") Stars = Wands (the wizardly connection) Glyphs = Cups (communion wine, I guess?) You could try to match the results with the pictures, but...

    D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd in 24 hours?

The following post is intended for the DM. I've run I6 in 5e a few times. There are about 3 sessions worth of content in it (about 2 sessions of good content--skip the crypt crawl if at all possible). A highball estimate would be about 12 hours if you're just running the village and the castle...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tool Use

Here's what the rules actually are: "Lock. A key is provided with the lock. Without the key, a creature proficient with thieves’ tools can pick this lock with a successful DC 15 Dexterity check. Your GM may decide that better locks are available for higher prices." So the adventure and the...

    Demons, Silence and Teleport.

It doesn't require any components. If it did, it would say so. The marilith's "Longsword" action doesn't require a verbal component either. The Innate Spellcasting trait works however it is written for a particular monster. For example: "The couatl’s spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd Map of Castle Ravenloft

I thought all maps in all adventures were only for the DM. How do you normally use maps? You don't have to draw it in isometric projection:

    Dusk elf stats?

Curse of Strahd, page 119: "They have dark skin and hair, but otherwise they are similar to wood elves (as described in the Player's Handbook)."

D&D 5E (2014) Sunlight in Barovia vs Sunlight Sensitivity

Where is this lore from? I have the original module. Here's the first sentence under "Lands of Barovia:" I took that to mean it's always cloudy, and there's never direct sunlight. Here's the ending: So the sun only comes out after he's dead. In the section on Strahd, it never mentions a...

D&D 5E (2014) Sunlight in Barovia vs Sunlight Sensitivity

Drow race: Sunlight Sensitivity. You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight. Drow monster: Sunlight Sensitivity. While in sunlight, the drow has...

Can Wizards Avoid Another OGL Glut?

    1. In the age of digital distribution, why would a glut be a problem? 2. Don't we already have a glut? It's not like the 3.x stuff went anywhere. 3. Why should WotC care about avoiding a glut? They are selling premium products with exclusive IP and expensive art; no one can really compete with...

D&D 5E (2014) Minor Illusion...can it be cast over other objects?

It says "create an image of an object," not "change the appearance of an object" (cf. seeming). Can you cast it over another object? Sure, since "things pass through it." Of course, "physical interaction with the image reveals it to be an illusion." Nobody would be able to pick up the illusory...

D&D 5E (2014) Clues in the Core Rulebooks

There are a few references to the Great Modron March (the subject and title of a Planescape adventure path) in the MM and DMG. Wow, I didn't even notice that. How embarrassing!
