Probably the usual way: getting his HP to zero, finding his coffin, and stabbing him with the sun sword.

    D&D 5E (2014) Too many weapons?

I'd allow it. That's a primary melee weapon, primary ranged weapon, and a few small tools. Seems perfectly reasonable to me. If you're really concerned, you can use either of the options in the Player's Handbook, page 176. Make the player do the math, but check his work.

    D&D 5E (2014) Determining CR / XP for NPC

FWIW, I made a slightly different build, and also got CR 6 for a 9th-level fighter. Veteran (Fighter 1) XP 100 (CR 1/2: DCR 1, OCR 1/2) Medium humanoid Initiative +1 DEFENSE AC: 19 (chainmail and shield; defensive fighting style) hp: 12 (1d10 + 2) OFFENSE Speed: 30 ft. Melee Attack –...

    D&D 5E (2014) Passive: It's not Just Perception - Passive Skill Checks

I only use passive Perception, and pretty much only as a DC for Stealth checks. I agree with your reasoning, but your conclusion doesn't work for me. I guess you like mental math more than I do (which is saying a lot, so well done), but I just don't see the need to involve numbers at all. You...

D&D 5E (2014) A word for those of you publishing monster books on DMGuild

I fully agree. I'd even go so far as to say that every DM's Guild product should have a high-level overview, a detailed table of contents breaking down every single thing in it, and an excerpt. 90% of everything is crap, and this is certainly true of DM's Guild. Thus, when I'm looking at a DM's...

Can anyone help a newbie group get started with P&P D&D ?

I also recommend 5e. The Starter Set has everything you need to start playing, though I recommend everyone buying their own set of dice as well. If you want to make your own characters (after playing a few times), check out the Basic Rules. If you want to make your own adventures, check out the...

D&D 5E (2014) Does the Eldritch Knight suck?

2 things: 1. The character builds forum is over here. That's the place to post threads like this. 2. Please stop saying "gish."

    D&D 5E (2014) Are Rogues mostly archers?

The strange thing about Sneak Attack and ranged weapons is that it actually encourages you to shoot arrows at people who are right next to your friends. ...which is insane. In real life, that's how you end up with a lot of dead friends. But there's no penalty for it in 5e, and for the Rogue...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

You mean with Dragonborn as the first race in the book? I dunno, I think there'd be a few oldschool gamers who'd go "Oh, they're still trying to push these newschool monster races? I don't think this game is for me." Actually, that's probably the exact reason they didn't just put them in...

D&D 5E (2014) Arcana Cleric: Arcane Mastery (17th level) picks

Doesn't Divine Intervention already cover most of the things you'd use Wish for?

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

There were a lot of reasons many D&D fans didn't like 4e. I'm not sure if you were on the Internet during the 4e era, but Dragonborn and Tieflings (especially with the "everything is core" mentality) were certainly among those reasons. Probably not even close to the top of the list, but it was...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

Did you miss the other passage I quoted from the PHB? The part where it says to check with your DM because their world might be different from what is described in the book? See, I don't think we can continue this conversation intelligently, because you seem to think this is a bad thing, and I...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and the "true exotic" races ...

Look, the rulebooks are full of assumptions. For example: How dare they say that ALL dwarves in ALL worlds MUST follow these rules! Another example: Isn't that untrue in Eberron and Planescape? But the rulebooks also tell you it's okay to change the assumptions. Appropriately, most of this is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why ever play a cleric?

Just because nobody mentioned it yet, I'd like to point out that we have a whole subforum for discussing min-maxing: http://www.enworld.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?363-Character-Builds-amp-Optimization This thread probably would have had less hostility if it was posted there, because then the...

    D&D 5E (2014) No Feats Allowed?

I'm planning a campaign with no races or feats allowed (initially, anyway). Also 3d6 in order. I'll let you know how it goes (spoiler: probably just fine).

D&D 5E (2014) Deal Breakers - Or woah, that is just too much

I can vouch for this. I've had a D&D group totally messed up by excessive substance use. And I've had another D&D group that was tighter than any I've ever known (meeting almost every week for 2-3 years before I moved away), where everyone had a few (weak) drinks every session. As a very...

D&D 5E (2014) Deal Breakers - Or woah, that is just too much

I only have 3 TRPG dealbreakers: The GM is incompetent. One of the players is a jerk. Play styles don't match. (I like in-character roleplaying and can't stand minmaxing, for example.)
