    Three Years in the Making...

Seems great! And thank you for remembering me! ^^ Right now, I’m not in condition to actually participate as a game designer, but I would love to see how the work is going from time to time :)

    D&D 5E (2014) In fifth-edition D&D, what is gold for?

Giving us just broad price ranges is basically "do it yourself". I could do that without those "guidelines". But math work isn't something a DM likes to do. Also, help to better DM a game full of magic items is also needed, because if the game's balance doesn't assume magic items... Plus, there...

Alternative Class feature with similar "replaces"

I believe you can’t. Although I don’t remember where the rules say this, it’s the logical decision, and a character could become horribly broken if one can do that.

    D&D 5E (2014) In fifth-edition D&D, what is gold for?

Well, all I want to say is: in my table, the moment you buy a castle and start being a noble is the moment you retire your character and make a new one. It’s perfectly fine to like the sort of game many of you are proposing. I would enjoy one myself. However, 5e has next-to no support for a...

D&D 5E (2014) How would you handle raising dead on a PC that didn't believe in the gods?

For the record, bards in 1e cast druid spells. But I agree with you, Eltab.

D&D 5E (2014) How would you handle raising dead on a PC that didn't believe in the gods?

Actually, it is quite possible to not believe in gods, talking about D&D. If the deity itself doesn’t show in the mortal world and act only through its followers… One could simply say that all those miracles are just… magic. Another form of magic. Basically, they stopped being Black Mages and...

TSR A 20 yr old phone call to TSR

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is good customer service. But I’ve got nothing, sorry.

    D&D 5E (2014) In fifth-edition D&D, what is gold for?

How much money we're talking about? Comparing +1 swords with entire kingdoms seems so unequal to me. Especially considering the fact that, eventually, you'll need to give your soldiers +1 swords too. At least. Plus, adventurers who are better at adventuring do get political power. At least in my...

    D&D 5E (2014) In fifth-edition D&D, what is gold for?

I can see the problem: My style is actually worlds with magic marts and magic items are much more common. I thought the rest of my posts made that very clear. Edit: it's getting late here in Brazil, but reading my comments, I think I wasn't clear enough. I'll clarify this as soon as possible.

    D&D 5E (2014) In fifth-edition D&D, what is gold for?

Nice alternative uses, but fails in one point: they are adventurers, and if they want to adventure more, they’ll want to improve their adventuring skills. For example, my characters are the “save the world” kind of adventurers – even if the reasons are not totally “heroic” – and in order to...

    D&D 5E (2014) In fifth-edition D&D, what is gold for?

I can play a game like that, but I have my preferences, and I would like to see those preferences supported by the system. Although I already gave up 5e, I spent a long time hoping it would be like that, but things didn't go that well.

    What changed between editions

I think that was your “mistake”: most early 4e adventures were just terrible, and I’m not sure on the later ones. I tried Keep on the Shadowfell. Game got much better when I started creating my own adventures.

    D&D 5E (2014) In fifth-edition D&D, what is gold for?

That... tells me nothing. I think it's clear the kind of system I want. I'm talking about the general idea that all magic items should be rare and special.

    D&D 5E (2014) In fifth-edition D&D, what is gold for?

Honestly I have no problem with games of highly rare magic items, the kind you can’t buy. Problem is, people are constantly pushing so that my style isn’t even possible without serious house-rules and heavy math work. I have a problem against that.

    What changed between editions

For all the hate, 4e was much better than what many people tell. It is quite different, because the mindset changed in regards to adventure building, but it’s quite good, and combat can be great with a good DM. Nice memories I have: could house-rule easily to make my setting, there were some...

Still an optional rule, though. No problem: all editions were like this ^^

That’s not the problem. The problem is people arguing about it as if it was standard rules.

D&D 5E (2014) Sacred Cow Bites The Dust.

Right now XP for treasure makes perfect sense to me. XP is supposed to reward certain achievements. Finding treasure is an achievement. Even paladins in my table are happy when they see it. Also, people are forgetting one important thing: XP for roleplay in 4e was optional. And in every other...

D&D 5E (2014) Sacred Cow Bites The Dust.

Of course is a players’ focus, it’s meant to be! You are using it right, I guess. The original game had a lot to do with dungeon crawling, defeating monsters, finding treasure, etc. But just adjusting what gives XP – and the quantity of it – can work wonders toward encouraging specific...
