"Fear of Monsters" back into 4th Edition

MoutonRustique Most of these ideas are good; you could test them in a 4e hack/house-ruled variant. One thing you can use about immunities is the weapon vs implement dichotomy of 4e. About level drain: well, I like the concept of your life force being drained away, and being hard to get back...

"Fear of Monsters" back into 4th Edition

Honestly, I’m not in the mood of discussing how much important Death should be to your characters. If you cannot see why, I’m not the one who’s going to convince you. I stand by my previous statements: Raising the dead should be costly and difficult, and if your (general case, not specific...

D&D General DMs Guild Classics POD & PDF Wishlist

I would choose Wrath of the Immortals. I mean, it is an “important” book for BECMI, I guess. The previously mentioned book is one I would like to have it, but bets aren’t about your wishes. However, I cannot actually make bets right now. I’ve spent all my available money in fancy wizard-themed...

"Fear of Monsters" back into 4th Edition

MoutonRustique Well, there might be some hyperbole involved. Remember, though, that D&D has a *lot* of monsters. Even if only 10% of them have any one of these “special abilities”, that is still many monsters. My particular problem is recording it all. I have to note this somewhere, even if I do...

"Fear of Monsters" back into 4th Edition

I understand what you are saying, and yes, it's perfectly possible to make 4e (or any other edition) a lot more challenging. However, by *default* 4e is too easy. You need some work if you want to bring so many mechanics back - as if you want all these effects - and "standard" sets up...

D&D General DMs Guild Classics POD & PDF Wishlist

Probably. And probably there's not much anyone can do about a missing pdf. But I think those missing pdfs will appear, eventually. Let's just make bets to see which books get released first hahaha

"Fear of Monsters" back into 4th Edition

Answer: Not so quite. As I’ve said, you can raise or lower difficulty as you want, but default expectations matter. The very book suggests that most of the encounters should be at even level. That’s not the problem. The problem is even-level challenges are too easy. The game just assumes...

D&D General DMs Guild Classics POD & PDF Wishlist

You did it just right, thank you! ^^ It's odd that some "lists" - some group of related books - just are missing some of their entries. I deeply appreciate their effort in bringing pdfs of “classic” editions available, though: this is the only way I can legally play 2e, and almost any other past...

"Fear of Monsters" back into 4th Edition

I actually agree with the OP in his point. Leaving Mummy Rot aside… I’m reading AD&D 2e right now, and many special nasty effects clearly got a lot weaker with time. Gaze attacks, petrification, monster’s charm effects, rust monsters, anti-magic fields, magic jar, instant death, paralyzing...

Name of Tiamat's lair pre 4e

I think there's an edition problem. In 2ndE, Tiamat has her lair in Avernus. However, in 1stE, it is stated several times that Tiamat is the ruler of the 1st Hell. Fluff is not the same between editions. Some things always change ^^

    Retroclone for AD&D 2e

You may want to check out For Gold and Glory. I still didn’t read it entirely, but it seems like a solid retroclone for “classic” AD&D 2e. It’s also available for free at DriveThruRPG. If anyone knows of any other, I would like to know it, too ^^

    D&D 5E (2014) 101 Kender Apocalypse Ideas

    19) The Kender “borrowed” the sweet popcorn. They loved it and started to eat (and make) them non-stop. They all got diabetes; there was no treatment and for some reason diabetes is immune to magic. They all died. However, I have to agree with you. 3D glasses make everything more realistic.

    D&D 5E (2014) 101 Kender Apocalypse Ideas

Just on a side note: The next game I'll DM, I'll allow kenders, saying they are very cute. If someone bites the bait... Then I'll buy sweet popcorn and 3D glasses ^^

    D&D 5E (2014) Do you miss attribute minimums/maximums?

Good for you. It's not my experience. Let's just say that: once, in the WotC's forums, some user told about his friend/relative DMing. One of the restrictions was: Paladins must be LG-only and Human-only. The number of people who suddenly were worried about how this game was "restrictive" and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Do you miss attribute minimums/maximums?

Well, we discussed about that. I think it's, in the end, a false promisse. Long story short: in many occasions, if the DM has to impose restrictions, s/he is the bad guy, spoiling the player's fun. If s/he takes out restrictions, s/he is the cool guy; the one that "breaks" the rules so you can...

    D&D 5E (2014) Water Management? :)

Honestly, I think resource management adds an interesting dimension to the game. We are in a "living world", we should act as one. Both as player and DM, I always keep track of ammunition and food. Never really thought about water, so, that's a 3rd thing to track! ^^

    D&D 5E (2014) 101 Kender Apocalypse Ideas

They seem nice to me. Really. Anyway: 15) They stole something from the king of a planet in eternal winter. All kenders died in less than 30 minutes.

    D&D 5E (2014) Do you miss attribute minimums/maximums?

Healing spells are of the necromancy school in older editions; but they are limited to clerics, priests, etc. Not available to wizards.

    D&D 5E (2014) Do you miss attribute minimums/maximums?

There's something that I want to say about all this: Realism is a wierd beast. Each player/DM has different sensibilities, which are often contradictory. For example: me! I'm fine with modern guns having the same overall power as medieval weapons, but I'm not fine with super-strong halflings or...

D&D 4E How many encounters between each extended rest? And does it change with tier?

My answer usually is: as much as they can handle. Also, one strategy I use is: never bind yourself to a fixed number. While I DM, some adventuring days are *very* long, while others are very short, even 1-battle days. The key is to make players be always uncertain about when they will rest at...
