As someone who has moved away from his original gaming group, I would advice you to stick to your group. Find another game you can join during those weeks you're not playing with your original group.

I don't see it as a contest of systems. they are compatible. That's the great advantage. I would go with PF as a base just because it is currently being supported by a company. but I wouldn't hesitate to sprinkle it generously with elements of 3.X

When you see most members of a party trying to acquire one of this, you know it's broken, specially when you know what style of players you have at the gaming table. if you are playing in a group with no access to divine healing, I would allow it.
