D&D 5E (2024) Memorize Spell is one of the most obnoxious abilities I've ever seen, despite being perfectly on-theme (Packet 7)

I actually really appreciate this ability. I generally am annoyed at the whole "prepare spells every morning" thing. It's my least favorite part of Vancian magic. Nothing is lamer than coming across the perfect situation where you can finally cast that one niche spell, but ope, you didn't...

    D&D 5E (2014) I want more flavorful wizard subclasses.

Cool! I dig. The phrase is a Gandalf quote, so I think it'd be a great name for a feat

    D&D 5E (2014) I want more flavorful wizard subclasses.

Kind of yeah. It'd be a Wizard with some Rogue abilities, rather than a Rogue with some Wizard abilities. It'd be like the Bladesinger and the Eldritch Knight.

    D&D 5E (2014) I want more flavorful wizard subclasses.

Well, that wouldn't be the whole subclass. There'd be other stuff, presumably unique abilities. My point is, I think Wizard subclasses could tell more interesting stories than "I specialize in Transmutation." And I could of course get a lot of different stories using feats and multiclassing...

    D&D 5E (2014) I want more flavorful wizard subclasses.

I'd like a Hedge Mage, the conjurer of cheap tricks, the wizard school dropout. Maybe they can make quick escapes, getting to disengage as a bonus action, or maybe a souped-up Prestidigitation to fool people out of gold. In general, I'd like more things like Bladesinger, with unique abilities...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D's Classic Settings Are Not 'One Shots'

I think VRgtR is one of the best books 5e has ever put out. The stories and domains are interesting and flavorful, and the book is full of unique horror mechanics, genre tips, and cool monsters. I read some of the original Ravenloft setting and, meh, I think 5e is about the same. Lore details...

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

Man, I hope they continue to let the Bard choose a Spell list. That was one of my favorite things out of all the playtests.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why no announcement for a Wizard's Presents 2023 for August yet?

I don't play Magic, but I would love some of these settings. Thunder Junction could be a sorely needed Western setting, and Bloomburrow would be really cool, too. I am also still rooting for Kamigawa and New Capenna.

    D&D 5E (2014) Bigby's Big Book of Giants

I don't see any evidence, just rumor-mongering. And even if it was in whole or part AI-generated (just speculation), WotC would not necessarily know that an artist they hired used AI. At the end of the day, an artist is still getting paid.

D&D 5E (2014) Book of Many Things pre order up.

I suppose Tasha's and Xanathar's had 48 and 47 respectively. That would still put this book as having the most. And when you think about all the new cards being added, they're sort of like 44 more magic items in their own right. It's definitely no 3e magic item compendium, but magic items...

D&D 5E (2014) Book of Many Things pre order up.

It seems like this is 5e's first big magic items book.

D&D 5E (2014) I Found an RPG Book at the Grocery Store

I've got all of Ashworth's "Gamemaster" line. Though not lavishly illustrated (with the exception of the Dragon one), they are excellent books. I use the NPC book all the time.

Mackenzie de Armas just threw out in a video that Annam "pulled the elemental planes from the elemental chaos." Do with that what you will.

D&D 5E (2024) Playtest Packet 6: They knocked Druid out of the Park

You know, I've always thought that creatures in 5e should be able to be of two types. Like an undead/dragon, or a fiend/giant. You could have some things that are just monstrosities, and some that are monstrosities/beasts.

I think they are also pricing in the DM screen (usually $20), like they did with Spelljammer. Still a lot, though.

Planescape Planescape Pre-order Page Shows Off The Books!

I enjoy twee and twee-adjacent, especially if it is blended with some darkness, fairy tale style. Wild Beyond the Witchlight is one of my favorite 5e adventures. I know Planescape is supposed to be grim, but I am looking forward to this Gaiman-esque version of Planescape with Yetis selling...

Planescape Planescape Pre-order Page Shows Off The Books!

An NPC was searching for a "time dragon," (in scare quotes). The adventure implied she was being duped, and that there was no such thing. Funny that they existed after all.

It was one of the best adventures in the book. You could mix and match the order of the train cars as you please.
