D&D 5E (2024) Experienced DMs, how useful is the 2024 DMG to you?

I like it a lot. Even the introductory sections had some useful advice, like tips on running exploration, which can be a weak spot for me. And I LOVED how it calls out antisocial players.

D&D General Help Me with My Pathological Aversion to Third Party D&D Products

I was also averse to 3rd party content, but then someone showed me Valda's Spire of Secrets from Mage Hand Press. It's basically my 5E PHB2 now.

D&D General Need Idea for Magical Terminology.

Spellshaping? Ring of Spellshaping? It's simple and intuitive. You could also just call Sorcery points "Magic Points" or the classic "Magica."

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 PHB/DMG/MM art/layout: like or dislike?

Good points. I always check in with my players re tone, themes, and setting. I would love for the "established assumptions" to change. I am starving for new types of settings

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 PHB/DMG/MM art/layout: like or dislike?

You are right in describing what most settings actually are. But it doesn't have to be. A campaign in ancient Egypt or Sumeria could be about creating those artifacts, traveling to the underworld or Mount Chimera for the raw materials. Or maybe it's in a sort of Ancient Greece, and there may not...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 PHB/DMG/MM art/layout: like or dislike?

I thought about including that as an example too! It's a common trope of fantasy settings to have lost technology from an fallen empire, but you don't necessarily have to have a dark age. Maybe your not-Europe didn't forget Greek stuff for 1,000 years. Maybe your Rome never fell!

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 PHB/DMG/MM art/layout: like or dislike?

Here is my take: A fictional, non-Earth world cannot have "anachronisms," or be "historically inaccurate," since it has no real history or chronology to adhere to. Just because the zipper was invented relatively recently in the real world doesn't mean that a fictional civilization couldn't have...

    D&D 5E (2024) Predictions for the 2024 DMG?

I saw somewhere that Chapter 8 was actually Bastions. I will try to find it. Edit: Found it! The 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide (First Look) | D&D News Chapter 1: The Basics: This section will cover important information for new DMs. This will include discussions of what makes a good DM as well...

D&D Is Getting an Official Stout and Bourbon

@Christian Hoffer Good to see you here! I think we live in the same city.

    D&D 5E (2024) PHB 2024 - General Impressions and Random Things I Noticed

I also noticed that you regain all your spent Hit Dice on a long rest now. So that's nifty.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Direct Will Talk About Project Sigil & Future of D&D on Aug 27th

I would actually combine monster books with books that have planar info. A book about fiends, where the first half is about the lower planes, detailing lore and locations, and the second half is bestiary. Celestials and upper planes. Fey and Feywild/Domains of Delight. Elementals and Inner...

D&D 5E (2024) Weird invisibility loophole saves Hiding but ruins the spell: Lose the Condition's benefits without losing the Condition

The poor design is not the Invisibility Condition itself, but rather conflating Invisible and Hidden. The confusion and arguing it has caused on the internet is evidence enough RAI (and common sense)will need to be used rather than RAW. Unless, of course, there's something clarifying in the DMG...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 PHB/DMG/MM art/layout: like or dislike?

I've had the book in my hands for a few weeks now, and I say, that the layout is the best it's ever been. I like the art, and I actually don't think it is overwhelming. What I really like is how intentional they were about a subclass fitting on a single page (the majority of them), and pages...

    D&D 5E (2024) PHB 2024 - General Impressions and Random Things I Noticed

General Impressions: I've read the thing cover to cover now. The highlight of the book is the layout and user experience (best of any PHB I ever read), and the art (fantastic). The core philosophy of the book seems to be filtering more things through key words and named actions, like Influence...

I thought that too, until I read the new PHB. It mentions Dark Sun conspicuously, along with the other published settings. It's the only setting mentioned in the PHB that has not been published yet
