    D&D 5E (2014) Throwing Enemies Against Walls

A player with Shield Mastery is going to use their Bonus Action to Push/Shove pretty much every round. Shoving a target prone is the go-to since it gives Advantage on follow-up attacks, so I don't often see Shove used to push targets away unless there are actual ledges or hazards. With that...

If max level were 8th, which Fighter would you choose?

I lean heavily towards the Battlemaster since that is what my character is (Battlemaster 5 / Cleric 1) and I love it. One of the players in my game plays an Eldritch Knight 6, and honestly I haven't seen him do anything that makes me jealous. Combat-wise, I think the Battlemaster has the edge...

    D&D 5E (2014) Give me some advices on creating a 5e PC

Looks solid to me. The the only alternatives I would offer are: Stats: Are you using the Standard Stat array? Fighting Style: Take Defense over Great Weapon Fighting. Defense is basically always on and you benefit from it no matter what weapon you are using. Personally, I wasn't "WOW'D" by...

D&D 5E (2014) Ritual Caster vs. Magic Initiate vs. Warlock dip for Dex Paladin (Ancients)

If you're a class that gets multiple attacks, then yeah I don't see much point in getting the SCAG Cantrips. One of the standard Ranged Damage Cantrips would be the only one I would recommend in that case since it scales with Character Level and you can use it as your "go-to" ranged attack.

Oshikuru, Demon Samurai. Hexblade/Samurai Fallen Aasimar

I don't have any suggestions, but I really like the concept build and might have to steal your character as a villain in one of my campaigns. =)

    D&D 5E (2014) Milticlassing Dip-schticks

Like most people have said previously, its to fit a character concept. My character is the wandering Knight who does good deeds to atone for his past mistakes. He is a Cleric (Light) 1/ Fighter (Battlemaster) 5, and I would not consider dropping the Cleric level at all. He has made liberal use...

D&D 5E (2014) Ritual Caster vs. Magic Initiate vs. Warlock dip for Dex Paladin (Ancients)

"...then you really just have those utility Cantrips. I don't see those being super useful..." =/= "WarpedAcorn doesn't see any value in utility cantrips" I see value in utility Cantrips, but I also see them as extremely situational. A Cantrip like Minor Illusion would not be something you use...

D&D 5E (2014) Ritual Caster vs. Magic Initiate vs. Warlock dip for Dex Paladin (Ancients)

Personally, I lean more towards Ritual Caster. Not only do you get access to a larger selection of spells, taking it as a Human-Variant starting feat lets you incorporate that aspect into your background. Now instead of simply being a faithful Paladin, you have this tie to magic. Maybe its...

D&D 5E (2014) CR and NPC HD in a low level world

My DM recently threw a group against me that included that MM Mage. Unfortunately as a 6th level character who was separated from his party, I had no chance. The DM had the Mage upcast Sleep and took out my 54 HP character before I could even act. So my suggestion is to also not just be aware...

    D&D 5E (2014) Retireing characters

I can't speak for other DM's, but I know i adjust accordingly. As the DM, I know that the dungeon won't allow them to take a Long Rest (minus creative workarounds) and have planned on the encounters being completed without multiple Long Rests. I know that no one in the party invested into...

    D&D 5E (2014) Retireing characters

Now that it was mentioned by manduck, I would say my rulings of having new characters come in a level lower are most certainly influenced by the old resurrection rules.

    D&D 5E (2014) Retireing characters

Talk with the player first to make sure the reason for the change is sincere. It might be that the problem is so minor that you can fix it without rerolling. Maybe the Fighter picked a bad Feat or aligned his stats wrong. Maybe he thought that a Greatsword Swinging Champion would have been fun...

    D&D 5E (2014) Monster Grappling Question

Yes it is! =) Thanks guys. It seems a little unfair to auto-grapple, but them's the rules huh? =/

    D&D 5E (2014) Monster Grappling Question

Hey Guys, I have a quick question that came up in my game this past weekend. The question first arose concerning Crocodiles, then with the Otyugh. Specifically, these monsters have attacks that, if hit, state that the target is grappled with and Escape DC of 12 (if my memory serves correctly)...

This is something else I want to try next campaign I run.

    D&D 5E (2014) Tweaking PCs/Respeccing

Respect to the other players at the table. I feel that XP is the character reward for making it through the challenge or adventure. I don't award XP to characters that didn't participate in the adventure, and because of that there are people at the table who do not all have the same XP value. If...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tweaking PCs/Respeccing

The DM running the home game I play in let us tweak characters once we hit level 2. Its the point where I switched from a Paladin to a Fighter/Cleric due to the Paladin nature causing an issue with one of the new players who had an Assassin. He offered the tweak for the same reason you...

D&D 5E (2014) Is There a List of ALL Monsters?

Link to the Fight Club below. I love this tool and use it constantly to tune my encounters and get ideas for what monsters to use. http://kobold.club/fight/#/encounter-builder

D&D 5E (2014) Help with base class and stats on a Homebrew NPC villain!

I agree and disagree with LordEntrails. I agree with it from a design standpoint, but I disagree with it because I believe that everyone should play by the same rules. If a player sees the bad guy do something cool, I feel the player should have the tools to learn how to do that. I don't like it...
