    D&D 5E (2014) 5e RAW swimming.

Depends on context, to me. For the vast majority of cases, I'd probably be happy with a simple check. But if the session is heavily focused on the dangers of navigating a dangerous stretch of water, it can be fun to have a subsystem to play in. I see it as a substitute for combat, to add...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e RAW swimming.

I love this idea. You can be as punitive as you like; con saves every round, every minute; whatever. In fact I'm totally using this if it ever comes up. I'll just apply disadvantage on the Athletics checks themselves as per stealth, but swimming in any armor will require con saves or incur...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e RAW swimming.

Eh, you're exaggerating a fair amount actually. Google the subject and you will find one or more videos of swimming in plate armor. Difficult, but hardly impossible, especially if the distance is short and the water is calm. Example that springs to mind was an untrained guy, not super strong...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

Yes... So? Do you believe this is bad or racist in some way?

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

It's even more ridiculous than you indicate here. Not only were the vast majority of Western atrocities not remotely atrocious by the standards of the time, but in many cases Western values were substantially better, more moral, and more enlightened than their contemporaries. That's *why* they...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

The truth of your position is not self-evident. It doesn't take "simply looking at a map" to see that you are right. I disagree with you. Strenuously. I really think we're not supposed to go into this argument here, and have been warned about this... but it absolutely does not sit well with me...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

I don't think we can really get into this in this thread, but I don't want to leave this statement totally unchallenged. This is false. There are lots of good faith arguments against what you're saying here. Western civilization is not the boogeyman. The people who disagree with you are not...

D&D 5E (2014) Skills that you u are not proficient with

Oh man, this takes me back. :D Most of my Rolemaster experience was with the Middle-Earth Roleplaying Game, which if I recall right is *substantially* less complex than actual Rolemaster. ... I don't miss it. Even a little.

    D&D 5E (2014) Raw d20 rolls?

If easy challenges are 10 *raw* then people fail at easy tasks 45% of the time. Yikes!

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

CosmicKid: a lot of the worst "manosphere" folks, e.g. Red pillers, actually dislike the MRA label and avoid using it. The confusion occurs because it is politically expedient for the opposition to label them as MRAs as a smear tactic. GM for power gamers: "State's rights" being about racism...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

There's a conflation of numerous disparate (and often mutually hostile) groups that the SPLC has lumped together under "manosphere" in that link. Many of them would in fact reject the title of "MRA" and many self-described MRAs would likewise not associate with them. It kind of casts a bad light...

D&D 5E (2014) Clearly the biggest design flaw of 5e

You can find various kinds of non-caltrop d4s online. A friend of mine collects odd dice; he has non caltrop d4s, and specialty dice covering almost every number from 3 to the mid 20s. I on the other hand just collect copious amounts of regular old dice. I'm confident that I have enough d4s...

    D&D 5E (2014) How Much D&D is To Much?

If you're having fun, it's not too much. I'm in approximately 6 games... probably averaging 15 hours per week. I'd like it if some of my groups could meet more frequently. Not all are D&D technically, just RPGs in general. If it's a pastime you enjoy... What's the issue?

D&D 5E (2014) Persuade, Intimidate, and Deceive used vs. PCs

This is not at all consistent with my play experience, both as a DM and a player. I'm very open to multiple outcomes of social interactions(or any interaction.). Failure is fun. Being pushed outside my comfort zone is fun. Sometimes I'm on the fence about a particular course of action and I'm...

D&D 5E (2014) Persuade, Intimidate, and Deceive used vs. PCs

Seems reasonable to me. That's not far from how I'd handle it either. When the outcome of the intended action is uncertain, roll. My main players are also primarily DMs in other games. That may be why they like this idea. So, when they are uncertain about how an NPC's statement will move them...

D&D 5E (2014) Persuade, Intimidate, and Deceive used vs. PCs

I dunno, like I said up thread, I sometimes roll social skill checks for NPCs. I let the player I roll against decide what that means, same way I get to decide when they roll against an NPC. The rolls m help when the outcome of the dialogue is not clear.

D&D 5E (2014) Persuade, Intimidate, and Deceive used vs. PCs

Also, for what it's worth, what I want out of DMing isn't the same as what I enjoy as a player. I bet I'd enjoy playing in a game you ran. :)

D&D 5E (2014) Persuade, Intimidate, and Deceive used vs. PCs

Iserith, after reconsidering some of your posts here, reading through your Twitter, and considering the first 2-and-bit transcripts that I have reviewed so far, I have come to a tentative conclusion. I sort of suspected it/alluded to it up thread quite a while ago. We have massively different...

D&D 5E (2014) Persuade, Intimidate, and Deceive used vs. PCs

So if the DM is unable to predict every question a player might have, that indicates a disconnect in play style? Nah. If the players have no unpredicted questions that would be much more alarming to me.
