D&D General Thoughts on Racial Classes?

Restricted race/class combos are stupid, and here's why: DM: You can't roll a Half-orc Bladesinger, it says Elves only. Me, an intellectual: You know the Reincarnate spell? DM: What about it? Me: I was born an elf, but died and got reincarnated into a half-orc

    D&D 5E (2014) GWM+Longbow

So that you can take both GWM and Sharpshooter and use both for -10/+20!! Before you tell me it cannot work: Sharpshooter says 'Before you make an attack with a ranged weapon.' Clearly, using the longbow to make a melee attack is an attack with a ranged weapon, as opposed to a ranged weapon attack.

How exactly are you doing that?

D&D General Helping Small Characters Feel Small

Get a tiny monster to grapple them, like a regular scorpion or something. Then point to the grappling rules that its legit.

D&D General Is Healing Magic Painful?

Only if you think of HP as meat. I think of HP as... HP.

D&D 5E (2014) Has anyone experimented with Advantage / Disadvantage on damage dice?

I don't get this argument. Does it slow the game down as much as the time it takes to calculate the 8d6 of Fireball/Lightning Bolt? Or Meteor Swarm later on? I don't think so. And if you say virtual dice can do it fast, I'm sure virtual dice can do advantage on damage dice just as fast. I do...

D&D 5E (2014) Yochlol 5e stat block seems lack luster or am i missing something thoughts and discusion ?

Ah Yochlols. In my Out of the Abyss campaign, i had one masquerading as an NPC cleric, travelling with the party. They started to suspect something during the travels, and when the Druid 'accidentally' cast a Moonbeam on it during combat, I thought, 'luckily it has magic resistance, to offset...

    D&D 5E (2014) "Fixing" assassinate.

You're highly overrating Advantage on attack, which only occurs in the first round, and only on creatures who have not taken their turn. You see unlike Assassin, Thief, Arcane Trickster and Swashbuckler's features aren't made redundant by flanking rules or initiative order.

D&D 5E (2014) What Spells Would You De-Nerf? (and how would you change them...)

Not sure what you're asking. Do you mean 'which spells would you buff?'

    D&D 5E (2014) "Fixing" assassinate.

Powerful abilities limited to once per day is not good design for a low level feature, especially the first feature in the subclass. If the target pass the save, the ability is wasted and you are back to being a plain ass Rogue for the rest of the day. Besides, having a save or die ability this...

D&D 5E (2014) What Spells Would You Nerf? (and how would you change them...)

Agree with Healing Spirit, but not the rest. Pass Without Trace - If they use this and Invisibility, they are using 2 level 2 spell slots. Those are limited resource, so not broken. Revivify - Mechanic's a little fiddly, and i dont think those Level 5+ versions need a chance of failure. The...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you think Wandering Monsters fit into modern 5E styles?

I ran Out of the Abyss recently, and the module uses a lot of random encounters. In the beginning, i just rolled the random encounter table during the session, it ended up being mostly described as 'You bump into X number of Y monsters, roll initiative.' IMO they could work if the DM was good...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranking Conditions

A few things stand out. Blinded should be Moderate at least. If Invisible is Major because others can't see you, why is a condition that makes you cannot see others considered Minor? Grappled should be Minor. Its only effect is Speed=0. Poisoned should be Moderate. Paralyzed is a better...

D&D 5E (2014) Homebrew: Removing Concentration From The Less Popular Spells

Also, pretty sure there was a thread arguing about what a crappy spell Barkskin is. Thought besides removing concentration, i'd rather turn it into Druid's version of mage armor.

D&D 5E (2014) Homebrew: Removing Concentration From The Less Popular Spells

Under spells that can have Concentration removed, you forgot 'Spells that are complete and utter trash' - True Strike, Ray of Enfeeblement. But seriously, i do agree that some spells should not have Concentration required. Lots of buff/debuff spells don't get used because the caster is already...

    D&D 5E (2014) Assassinate and Greater Invisibility

Apples and oranges? Not really. I call it poor design. You can take any subclass and use the Assassin logic: Is it good (even if you buff the numbers) if it can only be used in the first round and have a condition based entirely on the DM's whim? No its not. Its a complete joke. The longer the...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5 Years in: Concentration

I have removed concentration on all smite spells. When i asked my paladin player if he would now consider using them, his answer was a straight 'No'. That made me sad. Smite spells sucks. Why do they suck? Without concentration, their effect is still weak, unreliable and takes up Bonus Action...

    D&D 5E (2014) Assassinate and Greater Invisibility

Assassin is the worst rogue subclass, and one of the worst archetypes, on par with probably 4 element monk. It might sound like hyperbole, but its not. Don't believe me? Imagine if the BattleMaster Fighter can only use their maneuvers in the 1st round of combat, and only when enemy is...

D&D 5E (2014) What are your tips for making mobs/swarms interesting?

The one reason i hate swarms is that it counts as one creature. You have a magic item/ability that grants bonuses per creature killed? Nope, a swarm of bees counts as one bee.
