The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

I think it's a news aggregate like Google News, and seems to be reposting the CBR article.

WotC Anybody a little worried about how useful their paid VTT library will be in a year+?

I'm not sure they can shut down that extension, as it doesn't actually use the OGL or contain any copyrighted text. It just tells one window on your browser what is happening on another window, and adds an overlay on your screen allowing you to roll. It's independent of any license and as hard...

Paizo How will OGL 1.1 affect Pazio, PF1 and P2?

Paizo was burned by WotC when they pulled Dragon and Dungeon magazines, and then again when WotC didn't let them preview the 4e rules. They won't tie their company to a license that WotC could yank again at any time. Paizo will fight. Paizo will almost certainly launch a GoFundMe or some...

WotC Anybody a little worried about how useful their paid VTT library will be in a year+?

I paid Roll20 some bucks for extra storage, but not for any of the game features. For D&D I tend to use DnDBeyond and the Beyond20 browser extension rather than futzing with Roll20's character sheet. I don't see that changing...

    Going Nuclear:1D&D

There's some problems with this idea. First, boycotting D&D also means not playing, as that's an advertisement for their game. It's not enough if you're still playing with content you own, as you're still recruiting people to play that game and telling people you play D&D. You need to find...

D&D General Lego Dungeons & Dragons Contest Winner Announced!

Not really. Your set can get made, but probably won't. Lots of sets make it past the 10,000 user requirement, but not all make it to the Review phase, and of those picked for that, not all win. In 2021 there were 57 possible sets, and something like 41 sets were reviewed but only two are...

D&D General Lego Dungeons & Dragons Contest Winner Announced!

Which is why I picked that set, as D&D is also licensed.

D&D General Not gonna worry, Will just keep playin (+)

I decided six or seven months ago that I'd be skipping 6th Edition as I already own that edition, and don't need another X.5 Edition. After being deeply, deeply disappointed by Ravenloft I thought that was going to be the final D&D book I would ever but, but decided to make a one-time...

D&D General Lego Dungeons & Dragons Contest Winner Announced!

Which was a limited edition set done by WotC and not Lego. And cards are easy to do limited as they're just cardboard. And they were recycling art. And a Lego set has to sell enough to offset the cost of molds and production design. They can't charge the same as the 75192 Millennium Falcon...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

As I've commented elsewhere, if this is true, I wonder what it means for Fate and other non-D&D games that used the Open Game License but not the D&D SRD. WotC would be revoking a license used by other companies that doesn't involve them.

D&D General Lego Dungeons & Dragons Contest Winner Announced!

I'm disappointed by this and even more sad I didn't finish my entry. (Needed 2-3 more days.) This is just generic and seems like it got the most votes because it's the biggest and most dramatic, not because it best represents D&D. That could be a dragon from any fantasy world; it feels generic...

The Daily Bugle set is 3772 pieces and costs $349.99.

    So how do we respond?

Consider also if this goes ahead it might mean a company like Paizo is forced out of business as they rely on the OGL and can't make a brand new game in 6 months. Which means 125 employees are out of work as the second biggest name in tabletop gaming goes away...

    So how do we respond?

I think we're already doing it. It feels like someone at WotC leaked this so the management/ Hasbro would realize it was a terrible idea. Voicing our displeasure and promising to support any legal action or protests in the community puts pressure on WotC to move forward with an alternate...

    WotC non-OGL alternative to D&D

Fantasy Age and Shadows of the Demon Lord are probably the biggest two. They're modern and balanced, simple but not OSR.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

I know I'll likely pull my content off the DMsGuild in protest if WotC actually goes ahead with this license. (Or just set the price to $0 so people can still get it but WotC makes no money.) I hope other content creators do something similar.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

I've seen both. There's a lot of streams of people playing published adventures. Especially Curse of Strahd. 10 seconds of searching: I'm not exactly saying that. I'm more pointing out you could make a strong argument that the standard fan film rule-of-thumb should apply to D&D streams...

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

That's not really a counterargument... I made an argument with several points and you're basically saying "nuh uh" but not offering any opposing points. Yes, there are LOTS of fan films and the like on YouTube. But most aren't monetized. There are so many amazing Star Wars fan films on...
