Worlds of Design: What the Future Holds for RPGS - Part 2

In the 5e campaign i run we typicaly play for 3 to 5 hours with the occasional 6 hour game if a combat goes long. The campaign before was 1e and we played 3 hour sessions max because the space closed at 10 pm. My prediction for 2021: WOTC release 6th edition and then three weks latter 7th...

Worlds of Design: What the Future Holds for RPGs - Part 1

Hopefully the future is more automated virtual table. With easy isometric map making, built in content, and where the interface is point and click and the DM can just grab a orc from a list move it on the table and its done. Kind of what was promised at the 4e launch before the...

    Are You Burned Out?

As people said above the online adds to prep and burnout. We just hit session 99 in my homebrew 5e sandbox campaign. And I wouldn't say I am burned out, but i dread the time it takes to make maps so we can run online. Adventure prep goes from 2 hours to 4 hours. I also some times feel like I...

    Download the Terminator QuickStart!

Please don't. This is a trap set by Skynet to determine who is a credible threat. Obviously the resistance was lead by roleplayers and they want to find you so they can crush you. But I am excited about this game. Which i will buy in cash at a brick and mortar just to be safe.

Worlds of Design: Magic vs. Technology

Thats a big impact on game mechanics as well. If you take out that level of armor it penalizes some builds regardless of eddtion. The least she could do is say plate doesnt exist, but good smiths build superior chain that has the ac equivalent of plate.

Worlds of Design: Magic vs. Technology

That is a classic scene. I tried that, but that was also denied. The DM was set that the only way past the cliff was to have the thief climb walls because thats how he wanted to run the adventure. This was 1e so a low level thief had a good chance, but even a short fall would kill them so we...

Worlds of Design: Magic vs. Technology

I played in a game once where I wanted to buy a grappling hook and was told they hadn't been invented Sure you could buy plate armor and crossbows, but a hook on a rope? Nah to advanced. The guy just wanted to make us climb the wall with a skill roll versus using a tool. Needless to say I...

Playtest (A5E) Level Up Playtest Document #8: Berserker

Love the name change and focus to rage based class versus wilderness/tribal warrior.

Worlds of Design: The New Heroes

I read an article sometime back that compared the musculization of male action movie stars and it is increasing. It had side by side photos of huge jackman from the first wolverine movie wnd the last one and it was crazy how much more ripped he was in the last one. The articles point was the...

Here's What You Can Pre-Order For the DUNE RPG From Next Week

Agreed a good campaign is a most. I have too many RPGs that I have never ran because I have no idea how to execute them. I dont run prepublished modules, but having one that shows the intent of the game is important.

News Digest for the Week of November 27

Looks like its Owlbear Rodeo not Radio. Thats a clever name for a site but an even better one for a country song. Something about your wife leaving you and your familar choosing her and life being nothing but an Owlbear Rodeo.

D&D 5E (2014) It's Time To Rethink What An Adventure Path Can Be On Roll20

I hope the future of Virtual Tables is ease of use like this. Great work. Hopefully in a few years we will have isometric fully integrated virtual tabletop experience. Roll20 is ok, but it sucks for things like elevation and multiple levels where VT should perform better than regular table top.

Dungeon Master's Screen Wilderness Kit: An In-Depth Review

Im not a screen guy, like to roll in the open. But the condition cards are nice and I like that art. Does anyone know if the audible distance rules are in a book? I have inly ever found them on the screen. I refrence my screen for that and object hitpoints. I could use a full page of common...

Official News Level Up: Origins List

Farmer is a missed opportunity as a background. Farm kid makes good is a staple. Even if said kid is farming moisture.

Tasha's Cauldron of Everything: An In-Depth Review

Well said. More sub classes for sub classes sake is what i get out of many of the options. Did we need a wildmagic barbarian? Maybe in a setting book where it tied to the lore but its not a genre trope that was going unfilled. Im all for 5.5 and a mid edition overhaul.

Tasha's Cauldron of Everything: An In-Depth Review

The custom lineage box on page 8 basically gives you the ability to be a variant human, but take Darkvision instead of a skill proficiency. In my opinion, Darkvision plus feat at first level is way to powerful. Darkvision is way better than a skill.

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Beginers Box 2e (just got it)

I should have read more. I literally blind bought it based on how good the first one was. Im enjoying it and I probably would have still bought it if i had known it was only going to 3rd level just to get a taste of what 2e pathfinder is about.

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Beginers Box 2e (just got it)

Just got the 2e Beginner's Box. Not a big Pathfinder player, but I loved the 1st eddtion Beginner Box so i ordered it. The boxs is packed, the rainbow dice are great for beginners and the rules look user friendly. But I'm disappointed. Unlike the 1e box that went to 5th level this one only...

    Gamer Milestones

You are not serious about the hobby until you hire a trombone player to play a "Wah Wah Wah" sound everytime a player rolls a natural one. I also have a trumpeter because saying roll for initiative is for noobs.

News Digest for the Week of November 13

Im pumped for the pathfinder beginers box. Regular pathfinder is too crunchy but i loved the 1e beginers box. My only gripe is wasting pages on a "chose your own adventure" style player introduction. That only gets used once maybe incloude that as a app or something?
