Worlds of Design: The Four Laws of Character Death

When a charachter dies they start at half of the XP they had. This was enough to put him at 7th. The party ranges from 9th to 6th curently. I will point out it's not just XP lost though it's all the contacts, reputation, and clout the charachter had in the world. He was one of the brave who...

Worlds of Design: The Four Laws of Character Death

In the 5e sandbox campaign I am running we are 74 sessions in. Fair number of deaths so far. 4 sessions ago the only PC to survive the whole ways through the first 70 sessions died. Not on any of the larger plots, but on a treasure hunt. Just bad luck, low on hit points failed a DC 14 Dex...

Free League Announces Twilight: 2000 4th Edition

Speaking of WW3 "... In the early days of World War 3, guerillas - mostly children - placed the names of their lost upon this rock. They fought here alone and gave up their lives, so that this nation should not perish from the earth." Definitely running Red Dawn with this. WOLVERINES!

D&D 5E (2014) Mythic Odysseys of Theros Delayed

Dang. I was just buying this for the monsters as I was hoping it would have some legendary version of things like medusa. I personally feel the low cr no legendary action of the MM version makes it a boring encounter but it should make a great solo boss fight.

WotC Ray Winninger Is Head of D&D RPG Team; Mike Mearls No Longer Works on RPG

I for one hope his first order is getting us a PHB 5.5 edition. Clarify the errata work in some of the UA options, but make it completely compatible with the monster manual so it works with old adventures........wait that's what they did with 4e.......oh well still s good idea.

D&D General Roll D6! YouTube Channels to Enhance Your Gaming

I agree on Seth Skorkowsky I listen to his reviews when I am using my rowing machine. You dont really need to watch just listen so perfect.

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Beginner Box in November

I dont play pathfinder but will buy this because the first pathfinder beginners book was great. One of the best starter sets I have ever seen. Rules for making characters, rules for DMing, plenty of monsters, a conplete game in a box. The only issue was the adventure was a little generic.

    D&D 3.x Multiclassing in D&D 3rd Edition

2e multiclassing worked, but dual classing was broken as heck. We used to make uber characters by always dual classing. At least it lead to human centric parties.

D&D General Tower of the Realms Mini Scenery Piece

Maybe a more generic tower would be better than one with strange statues at the top?

    D&D 3.x D&D 3E Design: The Unbalanced Cleric

1e/2e clerics had access to some super powerful spell at second level. Hold Person and Silence 15 radius are game changers in those editions.

    Running an investigation style Adventure

My no prep mystery advice. Listen to your players. They will sugest a bunch of crazy ways to find clues. Pick which one of the ones that sounds reasonable and let it work. Mine usually go with speak with animal and lighting stuff on fire.

The New D&D Book Is Called "Ghosts of Saltmarsh" [UPDATED!]

I own every Dungeon Magazine and most of the adventures are not worth a rehash. But Bryce over at tenfootpole.org sums it up better than me. Poor guy had to read all those old adventures and write a review on each. https://tenfootpole.org/ironspike/?cat=5

Poll of the Week: What's the best gift for your GM?

One of those make you own coupon books with ones that say " I will give up on my 15 minute argument about why I should receive a +1 bonus for some nonsensical interpretation of the rules" and "I forgive you that your forget to take an action for one of you fiveteen enemies you are running and...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Of Ships and The Sea

Keelboat is 20 ft wide and 60 ft long but has a crew of 3 and only holds 4 passagers? Also what's up with saying ships can "move using thier Helm" under the actions section?

Dinosaurs On The Streets of Ravnica In This Art Preview

I'm concerned that you have to use a spell slot every time you want to get in the saddle. Ridding something that is two stories tall is not very practical. That guy must be overcompensating for something.

What's Inside Goodman Games' Isle Of Dread Reincarnated?

Worlds of Design: Tabletop RPGs Are the Most Naturally Co-operative Games

This artical is unfocused. It starts as a artical about why RPGs are better than other Co -op games then shifts gears to a rant about player alignment. Not sure what the point it is trying to prove?

    Shootout at the D&D Corral

I would not try to kill a elephant with a shotgun, even a rifeled slug is probably not going to do much unless you get really lucky. You need a high caliber rifle. Regardless D&D hit points are abstract and are not made to model actual damage. It's probably best not to think too much about Hit...

Where Are All the Dungeon Masters?

One way to solve the DM problem is to make D&D easier to run for larger groups. If each DM can run for 8 and not 4 players you cut the number of DMs you need in half. But it takes better players to run a large group. 1st edtion D&D was made to run fast with group initiative and simple combat...

Pathfinder 2 Character Sheet #3: Valeros, Human Fighter

Does having his mug "ready" give him a bonus to his "party" initiative. Or Chug: You can raise your mug as a reaction to subtract 4 from your sobriety saving throw.
