D&D 5E (2024) Should the environmental conditions scale by tier?

Being exposed to the elements isn't represented by HP damage though, it's done via exhaustion so it's already just as deadly to the level 10 wizard as the level 1 one without any kind of scaling on the DM's part.

D&D 5E (2024) Should the environmental conditions scale by tier?

My personal take on this is that even though the players can in theory get hit by an F5 tornado at any level as DM I simply won't have that happen when they are at low levels because it's unfun. They will either be hit by less powerful tornados, or more likely the tornado won't hit them directly...

D&D 5E (2024) Should the environmental conditions scale by tier?

No but also yes. A regular storm will be the exact same, but I'd be more willing to have a super storm event happen.

    D&D 5E (2024) Reworking the 2024 Hiding rules

A couple of my thoughts The keyword should be something along the lines of Unseen rather then Invisible. There should probably be a moderate obscurement level because light vs total is too wide a range. Cover has 3 levels (Half, 3/4s, Total) so there's an argument for the same being true for...

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone else dislike the "keyword" style language of 5.24?

Not to be overly pedantic but you don't seem to be talking about adjudicating anything. There's no judgement call to be made when you are simply looking up a rule and then applying it. Keyword style language can certainly help you when you want to apply things in a consistent manner, especially...

D&D General Doing Tragedy in D&D

Keep in mind this would be for a game where the players agreed at session 0 that they wanted a tragic so claims of unfair/unfun just don't hold the same weight as they would in a more standard game. Also maybe it wasn't clear in my original post but the players would have a choice, do adventure...

D&D General Doing Tragedy in D&D

Tragedy doesn't mean fail at everything all the time. If the PCs go into the haunted house succeed like a normal but then discover after coming out that a loved NPC has been killed and the PC could've/would've prevented it if they didn't go into the haunted house it will still be very much a...

D&D General Doing Tragedy in D&D

One idea for having a mechanic for tragedy is to modify Inspiration. Boost the inspiration so that rather then a re-roll it's auto success, but there's a drawback, the DM will drop a bad/tragic event that can't really be prevented on your PC/loved ones at some point in the future.

D&D General Doing Tragedy in D&D

Presenting a moral dilemmas is one way to go about it. For example the villain is siphoning power from an imprisoned demon and as a result is overpowered and probably wins a fight against the PCs. If the players get the opportunity to free the demon they severely weaken the villain and can end...

    D&D 5E (2024) Non-Human Party - Campaign help!

One thing to note about a dragon, is if the OP wants the standard D&D of a Black Dragon being evil, there's the risk that with a couple completely new players + the shrek vibes that their first instinct is that the dragon is basically good and a potential ally. For undead, if there are a number...

    D&D 5E (2024) Non-Human Party - Campaign help!

By suggestion would be a human kingdom has decided to drain the wetlands and convert it to farmland. However this awakens a powerful evil that was slumbering/buried in the swamp that is not only a threat to the human populations nearby but also the otherwise friendly-ish denizens of the swamp...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

Does Warlock count? Because they are basically the magic equivalent to martial DPR classes.

D&D 5E (2024) Druids, Muskets, True Strike and Shillelagh

Couldn't you just continue to use True Strike for the melee club-like attacks?

Isn't this essentially Adventurer's League play?

D&D 5E (2024) Rogue Weapon mastery and Pact weapons

The melee only limit is more from Booming Blade. If going ranged you have to use TS like the OP had initially.

D&D 5E (2024) Rogue Weapon mastery and Pact weapons

A 2 level Warlock dip grants 3 Invocations, you can go Pact of Blade so that you can stay SAD, then AG + RB. But yes it's melee only.

D&D 5E (2024) Rogue Weapon mastery and Pact weapons

So on the assumption that attack cantrips like True Strike do work with Agonizing Blast, then Booming Blade is probably the better choice given that the AB damage would also apply for the secondary damage of BB if triggered. And Repelling Blast has similar wording so should also be applicable...

    D&D General Ships & spellcasters

For regular run of the mill merchants it's simply too expensive to hire wizards/sorcerers, after all those in need of money can make plenty without leaving their tower which is much safer. Though crafting and selling Wands of Fireball is perhaps one of those money making ways. I haven't really...

D&D General Pope Wars, nothing but Pope Wars

To solve the whole Commune/Divination problem you just need something answering on each side of the schism, it doesn't really have to be who the Clerics think is answering though. So you could for example have one side having their spells/prayers being answered by Asmodeus without them...

    D&D 5E (2024) "Sword" and Board Build?

The new Defensive Duelist is probably a better choice then using Shield spell for S+B characters. It limits your weapon selection, which means no PAM but will give you way more mileage then the Shield spell would. That said MI as the origin feat for Shield can make a lot of sense for some...
