    D&D 5E (2014) Acquisitions Incorporated Takes Over D&D: A Review

The real point I was trying to make, and I guess not doing a terribly good job of it, was that they were elegant in their simplicity. Five of the roles now have at least one ability that takes seven days to recharge, and many more require ability checks (with "you can't try again until the next...

    D&D 5E (2014) Acquisitions Incorporated Takes Over D&D: A Review

Aside from being a huge fan of the C Team, the roles were my primary reason for picking up the book. But to be honest, I actually preferred the abilities they offered on the preview bookmarks. They were all "x times / day, you can do a thing." In the book, many of them are now "do a skill...

Chaotic Good Is The Most Popular Alignment!

I feel like some of us have taken a suggested definition of Lawful and are arguing really hard for or against it as if it's the given definition. From PHB122, while they do say the first attribute refers to: Let us approach this with 5e eyes and take specific over general. The general...

D&D 5E (2014) Crafting Items - Expert Craftsman vs Adventurers

Several mentions of using dice rolls for crafting in this thread. Where does this come from? Unless I'm mistaken, 5e doesn't make you roll for crafting an item. The item crafting rules in PHB, DMG, and XGE don't mention any need for a check. Closest I can find is some of the suggestions in...

5e Are Ioun stones supposed to need attunement?

I like it, but be prepared for a wave of wizard-hating fighter mains complaining about your classist idea =)

    Wizard Students

There's a bit of image compression that seems to be messing up the kerning. I just replaced it with a png, but it seems to be an artifact of exporting from powerpoint. So I just replaced it with a png from a screen capture of the slide (I'm functionally doing cartwheels here), and I think it...

    Wizard Students

I came up with this learning plan for sub-Level 1 wizard students, figured I'd put it out there in case anyone else wanted to use it. This effectively spreads out the Wizard class and the character's background into "time units." Background was included because I expect learning to be a wizard...

Ritual Spells - do they need to be a separate category?

Eh, it's not like the rogue expends a finite combat resource to pick locks. And the magic is not quite as out of hand as you think: you seem to be forgetting that spells like Fly and Invisibility are concentration. And that ritual spells are always cast at the lowest level. The healing...

Ritual Spells - do they need to be a separate category?

I guess I've played enough games where mana recharged and still had fun, so I don't see it as an insurmountable issue. You just have to have obstacles that are more like puzzles and less like enemies to roll dice at. I've been discovered! [clutches wizard hat and disapparates]

Ritual Spells - do they need to be a separate category?

A fair point if your group relies on overcoming mundane obstacles with mundane solutions for their excitement. By mundane I mean non-magical, take no offense. But using magic to overcome an obstacle is only as uninteresting as you want it to be. Personally, if someone levitated me up a cliff...

Ritual Spells - do they need to be a separate category?

I was pondering, how much would the game actually change if all spells were rituals? Instead of ritual spells being treated as a special case, simply allowing ritual casters to cast any spell as a ritual. Some thoughts: - At +10 minutes to cast a spell as a ritual, there is no effect on...

You Can Now Preorder The Acquisitions Inc Book On Amazon

What's the opposite of a hard pass? A soft receive? I soft received on this. The C-Team started around the time I moved across the country and effectively stood in for the social ties I left behind. There's no accounting for taste, of course; I do not expect everyone to like it. But I do...

Official D&D Errata Updated (Nov 2018)

Okay, thanks for the clarification on your thoughts. I agree it doesn’t change anything wrt the sage advice on Magic Initiate. Minor wording change that seems in line with the rules and sage advice up to this point. Probably just there to head off some multiclassing arguments.

Official D&D Errata Updated (Nov 2018)

Could you clarify what you mean by this? By my reading, nothing has changed in this regard. A wizard who takes Magic Initiate (Wizard) still gets another wizard spell known.

    Wizard's Spell Book Allocation

Agreed, but I would recommend keeping the spellbook anyway. Copy what you already know into it, and have a backup spellbook.

D&D 5E (2014) Downtime Research Analyzed (and some thoughts on spell research)

Yes, this does assume a fair bit of downtime, or a non-adventuring wizard (a wizard out on adventures is hopefully picking up spell loot along the way). The way time works in 5e is left pretty vague, and that's not a bad thing, but it means some tables are going to reach level 20 in the in-game...
