Advice for a Old West game system

I don't so much have a system to suggest as a Meta-setting. Forbidden Kingdoms for D&D 3.x (D&D classes presented as Advanced Classes for d20 Modern as well) presents a Gunslinging skill used for Showdowns. There are few maps to speak of, unfortunately.

    The Dice-less Role-playing Game

The ones that come across as "whoever's loudest wins" is where narrative control is determined primarily by interruption.

Gaming Style Assumptions That Don't Make Sense

I had originally worded that as "PCs dying left and right", but decided on the different wording. The assumption that letting the die roll "do its job" = "dead PCs every fight" is how this assumption comes across to me. To be fair, there are systems that are deadlier by design, and even they...

Gaming Style Assumptions That Don't Make Sense

From either the GM or player side, there are an awful lot of assumptions about style that don't make sense to me. The most jarring for me is "let the dice fall where they may" = "PCs dying frequently". What are some of yours?

    The Dice-less Role-playing Game

There are several diceless RPGs on the market. Some simply use a different randomizer, others are more of a "whoever's loudest wins" to me.

    subverting the "captured damsel" trope

Slay the evil princess and rescue the innocent dragon. Somebody had to say it.

    Dice Questions?

Kevin Cook, using "dice" as both singular and plural seems to have been the way it always was in the UK, it's gaining ground in the US much to my chagrin.

Who runs a fantasy setting where PC/NPC are really scarce?

While I don't delve too much into Hobbit/LotR lore, Beorn has a whole people of werebears the Beornings. Just because monster manuals are full of a variety of monsters doesn't mean that all of them are on every single world. Because of the OtherWorlds Creations metasetting Forbidden Kingdoms, I...

Note to WotC: They're not TRPGs. They're just RPGs.

I'm doing "as a body" because what Americans call the hood is called the "bonnet" in the UK, thus suggesting that the front of the car is the head, so extrapolating from that wouldn't the wheels be the equivalent of legs/feet? Still surprised that it's short o in "scone" instead of long.

Note to WotC: They're not TRPGs. They're just RPGs.

At least in and around Michigan, there are a lot of tabletop gamers of all kinds. Whether that is more or less than computer gamers, I don't know, I deliberately avoid such polls: not important enough for my time. Although I prefer brevity, spending a few extra words to say "book and dice"...

    Dice Questions?

I started a job where college professors or their bookstores send us information for course packs. While doing one of the more tedious parts of this job, I noticed some of the writing on a course pack. Why have some people switched to singular "Dice" and plural "Die"? The next course pack I...

What makes us care about combat balance in D&D?

The wording of your poll makes me an invalid candidate to answer it. Even if it were worded differently, you still don't have the answer I'd choose. Obviously this has a lot to do with gaming styles. Some people are really into mechanics. Although I like fiddly systems, I'm not one of them...

    How do you pronounce "Erinyes"

There is no H sound in the first two pronunciations in your poll. For me, it would be 2, without the non-exitant H sound.

Games you want to play but can't

I'd like to be on the player side of World Tree more often. Often I tend to run the games I want to play. When I get people interested in them, it makes me happy.

Anybody like/play The World of Darkness?

I had some ideas for Changeling: the Lost games that amused me but never got off the ground. One was about various holiday characters being True Fey, and I had planned on doing a "robot" Santa NPC as a Manikin enemy. Whoops, actually, my other plot was for Changing Breeds.

Games you want to play but can't

I've only actually played In Nomine twice. That would be fun to play more often.

Why do you have a colossal...

Because during the '90s, I suffered from "shiny new toy syndrome", often buying a book for any game I'd played a single session of. In the late '90s, after looking at my Planescape collection in particular, I realized I was relying too much on the imaginations of others. Some of my books have...

    Too "busy" for my tastes.

    Unwanted Magic Items

As of 3.0, magic items have a price. If I'm recalling correctly, you can sell things for half their value according to the rules. This is too simple. It doesn't really allow for fluctuations in an area's (or person's) finances, desire, or supply of the item in question.

How to design a Character Sheet?

Adding to Hand of Evil's response, begin with the end in mind. Start with what you want the final result to look like, and work backwards to get to that point.
