D&D General please tell me about the old psionic classes?

Kineticists have quite a few tricks. My level 1 kineticist can already choose between several different ranged and melee weapon abilities every single attack using 4 different damage types, can craft stone tools or a refreshing glass of ice water at-will, or make the same move or disappear, can...

D&D General What devil would most want to make trouble in the Radiant Citadel?

Levistus seems like a good nemesis for a portal town built on cooperation.

D&D 5E (2014) Players, would you play in a multi-year campaign that used only the 5.1 SRD?

Nope. Way too long to go with so few options. I'd start falling asleep at the table.

WotC Hasbro CFO Sharpens Focus on Cost Savings As Toy Shoppers Pull Back

Toys are also the kind of thing you can pass on. My sibling's kids adore my old toys. By the time they're old enough to care about how old they are they'll be into video games.

D&D 5E (2014) Players, would you play in a game that only used the 5.1 SRD?

If a dear friend of mine really wanted it and they provided good snacks, sure. I'd also play a 1E game or a Vampire: The Masquerade game for the same reasons. You have to have a pretty horrible game to be not worth playing with good friends, like FATAL or something.

D&D 5E (2014) Guns and D&D - are we doing it wrong? An alternative

My solution has just been: A gun is a very loud crossbow.

    D&D 5E (2014) Somehow Vecna returned....

Vecna is actually septuplets, just one of their many secrets.

D&D General What are the “boring bits” to you?

Waiting for people to make decisions.

D&D General Ravenloft: Monsters vs Darklords

I hang out on very acerbic forums you shouldn't give me a setup like that. :p Anyways, the game mechanics and lore need to match or else players cannot rely on them. A distinction without a difference is just noise.

D&D General Ravenloft: Monsters vs Darklords

Water can suffocate you and impede movement and there are skills and feats and abilities based on it, gravity is a constant factor throughout the game. The sky has a major impact on what kinds of environmental events can occur and what monsters can attack. You're describing a bunch of stuff...

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Monster Core

As a newbie to the system I'm quite curious to see what changes they introduce to the lore through this. I've noticed quite a few gaps in the areas of my personal interest (elementals, naturally), and I'd love to see those fleshed out more.

D&D General Ravenloft: Monsters vs Darklords

I don't see it? You said the Dark Powers could just fudge it to make it look like they have souls so what's the actual visible-to-players difference? If Soulless people are immune to X but cannot resist Y there's at least something players can see.

D&D General Ravenloft: Monsters vs Darklords

If it doesn't do anything then what's the point? It's like "Everyone in Ravenloft has blue eyes but the dark powers make them all have a normal range of eye colors".

D&D General Ravenloft: Monsters vs Darklords

That at least can be an arbitrary DM ruling without extra work. The problem is what happens when a soulless person interacts with a abilities designed to work on people with souls.

D&D General Ravenloft: Monsters vs Darklords

The soulless thing could be really interesting if it did anything. Soulless villagers could be the best defense against certain monsters, while being easy for other monsters to possess. Just gotta actually do game design.

D&D General The core monster lineup across all editions

In TSR-era D&D they were very... chainmail bikini about things. Nymphs even had magical gamer girl bathwater. In contrast, 4E dryads were basically curvy ents.

D&D General The core monster lineup across all editions

Dryads are more common in D&D simply because they were easier to turn into monsters that did something other than be sexualized.

D&D General Ravenloft: Monsters vs Darklords

Could have some interesting outcomes, but really needs mechanics to keep it from being a headache in play.

D&D General Ravenloft: Monsters vs Darklords

D&D has its own soul lore, no need to play with real world stuff. Resurrection spell results also mandate the consent of the soul. Night Hags trap souls. Barghests consume souls. Devourers ...devour souls.

D&D General Ravenloft: Monsters vs Darklords

For me it's just that being soulless has mechanical consequences, or at least requires the game to add "but the Dark Powers make sure this has no impact". Some of these are interesting - a soul-eating being would be ravenous! Some of these are awkward - all corrupted soul type undead are...
