[Forked from the Escapist Magazine Interview Thread] What implications does E...

It's hard to tell whether you're talking about individual skirmishers or units of soldiers commanded by a captain. Of course, individuals teleporting into the enemy ranks without an easy escape plan are likely dead. But, entire troops that can teleport are going to be prized, even if it's just...

    D&D 5E (2014) Live Dungeons & Dragons Q&A Friday, June 6 Question Thread

You must spread some Experience Points around before giving it to Morrus again.

[Forked from the Escapist Magazine Interview Thread] What implications does E...

To be clear, I'm not suggesting there's an issue. I'm just having a little fun thinking out the world building implications, like some other posters in this thread. The 4E edition war train sailed a long time ago, as far as I'm concerned.

Hm. Some 4E questions. Does teleportation preserve momentum? How much weight can a person carry while teleporting? Does line of sight include magically aided vision?

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L for 6/2

It hasn't, so far as we know (and since above mearls is the c-suite, I don't think there's anything hidden). If you're going for skepticism, I'd stick with pointing out that D&D management was likely a mere stakeholder as far as the legal team was concerned. (Past tense since I take mearls at...

Eldarin gates made of stationary gelatinous cubes. Only those who can teleport can pass through, and good riddance to those who come blundering into the clear gap in the walls. Eldarin military tactics center on exploiting their maneuverability. Windows made of tinted glass, since even a small...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls did an interview for Escapist Magazine and reveals PHB classes, races, and much more

Also it (probably) means that the wotc's adventure production team(s) is (are) free to take up any other projects they might fancy, unfettered by wotc's HR department. I didn't think I would ever say this, but I am thrilled with the direction they've taken with their adventures in 5E.

D&D 5E (2014) Things that probably won't happen, but man would it be cool if they did!

I want a deep, well-thought-out prehistoric setting. Also the normal boilerplate stuff about a D&D movie that doesn't suck, return of the print mags, re-emergence of TTRPGs as a mainstream hobby, etc.

    D&D 5E (2014) 30/5 D&D Alumni Archives: Beyond Feudalism - Experimental Genres

OHMYGOD yes. I can't even look at their chapters about Asia--they just kill me every time. And they're still doing it, too: check out this recent review, for example. Agreed again! If anyone's keen, I'd recommend happy jack's saga of the inukai podcast--it's pretty good, and gives a good notion...

It could also refer to legacy 4E era tools that get still handled by subcontractors.

    D&D 5E (2014) Upcoming OGL-Related Announcement!

Yeah, everybody, listen to Mistwell and not me. I was being sardonic* with my suggestion (because I think "world's greatest" is a dumb catch phrase), and certainly don't think that referring directly to a line on the phb cover is a smart way to avoid lawsuit. * but only kind of sardonic--I'm...

    D&D 5E (2014) Upcoming OGL-Related Announcement!

Two things I noticed. First, Mearls is no stranger to the perils of writing adventures for games that people don't yet understand very well. So I have some sympathy for his rationale here. But second, it's hard to ignore that this timeline, as well as the midweek timing of this "special" L&L...

    D&D 5E (2014) The implications of Basic 5E: An adventure-based approach?

I definitely would like to see the source on this if/when you're able to recall it. Personally I would be willing to bet cold, hard cash against the possibility of wotc attempting any kind of serious IT development this time around. (Not that I think it's a poor idea by any stretch.)

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L Basic Dungeons & Dragons

I keep having this recurring fantasy where Kobold Games takes charge of the the mags just like Paizo did way back when. Just a fantasy probably, but god it's a good one.

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L Basic Dungeons & Dragons

I doubt 5E will be OGL (although it may be an open-ish general license); but all THIS press release really means to me is that wotc has the good sense not to use the SRD as an entry point for the general public. Which is as it should be: what ever winds up going in the SRD should be for 3PP...

D&D 5E (2014) Weapon and Spell Speed Factor Module

This should be pretty easy to house rule, I would think. A spitballed example: Weapons that do d2-d6 damage have a weapon speed of 1. Weapons that do d8-d10 damage have a weapon speed of 2. Weapons that do d12 + damage have a weapon speed of 3. Most non-attack actions have a speed of 2. Single...
