D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

It’s a nice attempt, but this sounds an awful lot like standard Dungeons & Dragons, right? Is there anything more? Anything unique?

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

Again, what's the hook? What is unique about Greyhawk? Eberron is a noir and pulp fantasy campaign setting in which magic has been harnessed to fuel an industrial revolution. Theros is a campaign setting inspired by Greek Mythology where larger than life heroes dedicate their exploits to a...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

I didn't make myself clear. I did not mean that it's impossible to play in Greyhawk. Every gaming group is different. I'm sure you could get players interested in almost any kind of material, if you're passionate about it and your enthusiasm is contagious. What I'm saying is that no one in this...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

Having read this thread, I am now convinced that, though there are ways to shape Greyhawk into a distinctive campaign setting for 5e, one that would bring something unique to the table, in doing so, the product would probably not get the support of Greyhawk fans. While some people here have...

D&D 5E (2014) Iggwilv/Tasha To Join Volo, Xanathar, and Mordenkainen? [UPDATED!]

And here I am, hoping that the next "Everything" book will be called "Etienne d'Ambreville's Grimoire of Everything"

    Where's the American Fantasy RPG?

In my opinion, Mayfair Games' DC Heroes RPG is the perfect super heroes role playing game and it didn't make a ton of money.

Because it would make the setting distinctive and interesting ?

D&D General (Anecdotal) conversations with Asian gamers on some problems they currently face in the D&D world of RPG gaming

The folklore shaped the country into what it is now. It is part of its heritage, is a cultural touchstone, and has influenced countless other literary productions. This is why it belongs there and why the country is the custodian of said folklore. As folklore is meant to be shared freely, it was...

D&D General Which "Elements" would you put in a Cosmology?

Oh yes, good catch ! I'm not a huge fan of the "let's explain that Captain Boomerang gets his powers from the Boomerang Dimension, and while we're at it, let's add a Ball Dimension and a Frisbee Dimension" school of comic book writing, but I really enjoyed how they expanded upon the concepts of...

D&D General (Anecdotal) conversations with Asian gamers on some problems they currently face in the D&D world of RPG gaming

So which country's folkore do we base the future of D&D on? Germany? Greece? The United Kingdom?

D&D General (Anecdotal) conversations with Asian gamers on some problems they currently face in the D&D world of RPG gaming

I'm not sure I understand your point. Are you saying that you can't paint all of East Asia with a single brush, but you can do that with Europe?

D&D General Which "Elements" would you put in a Cosmology?

Yes, and there are rings for Life and Death as well.

D&D General Which "Elements" would you put in a Cosmology?

If you believe DC Comics, you could also add the following "elements": Rage, Avarice, Fear, Willpower, Hope, Compassion, Love The Speed Force, the Strength Force, the Sage Force

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

I've played quite extensively in Greyhawk a long, long time ago and I didn't care for it. I found the setting generic and uninspiring. The only things I like about it are the gygaxian names and the slightly grittier than average tone. In my opinion, if one were to revive Greyhawk in 2020, one...

D&D 5E (2014) If all Rangers had an animal companion ...

I was aware of the fact that there is flavor text in the PHB, and I have to admit that this is nicely written, but to me, it sounds like a post-facto way to justify why there's an Aragorn class in D&D. It doesn't describe an archetype from folktales or literature, it's just a combination of...

D&D 5E (2014) If all Rangers had an animal companion ...

I don’t know what a Ranger is. As an archetype, it makes absolutely no sense to me. I say, let’s call the class "Hunter" (a word with much clearer, much richer connotations) and rebuild the whole class from the ground up. Adding an animal companion to that class would make perfect sense.
