    D&D 5E (2014) Humans!?

Some people want to play Han Solo, some (weird) people want to play Chewbacca.

    D&D 4E French translation of D&D 4E?

Yes, 4e has been thoroughly translated into French, I have the books right here.

AD&D; Are 1st and 2nd Edition the Same?

The biggest difference was that, with 2e, you could actually learn to play the game by reading the rules.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana is Here - and it's all about EBERRON!

Yes, except the Kalashtar and a couple of iconic monsters, we have everything we need to start an Eberron campaign. Sadly, I think it means that we'll never get a 5e Eberron world book, but what we have is good enough.

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on spending gold ...

Using the SRD list sounds very easy to me.

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on spending gold ...

In what way is that an example of an argument that goes both ways? I'm arguing that the game is better without those rules and that people who'd like to include them or a close equivalent can come up with that by themselves. What is the opposite argument?

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on spending gold ...

Now I think you're being deliberately obtuse. You may not agree with WotC's decision, but by now it's pretty clear that not including individual item prices was a conscious choice, one that seems to be embraced by many people. Feel free to disagree but calling it "lazy" is simply incorrect. They...

And then there were 8! On Chris Sims and Jennifer Clarke Wilkes' Layoffs...

Now that's something you really should have mentioned in other threads.

D&D 5E (2014) Are HotDQ Fights Too Deadly?

Just use 13th Age's escalation die!
  10. The Mirrorball Man

And then there were 8! On Chris Sims and Jennifer Clarke Wilkes' Layoffs...

People are excited and eager for more D&D. It's a good thing, isn't it?

D&D 5E (2014) Do You Purposely Split Up the Party?

Back when I used to DM regularly, I would NEVER split up the party. If I left some of my players alone for five minutes, conversations would erupt and I could never get them to focus on the game again.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E: Ten Years Later

What I think we'll get: - A big campaign book every year. - A revised 5.5e edition in 2017. - A new 6e edition in 2020. I don't expect to see any splat book or setting book.

Designers and Dragons Bundle of Holding, Only 7 hours left.

I've received this bundle as a gift and I've read the first Designers & Dragons book, which is fantastic and comes highly recommended.

DIY edition? You're not doing it yourself, you're copy/pasting from the SRD, for free, because you specifically want to change a rule you don't like.

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on spending gold ...

Honestly, how much time and willpower did that take?

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on spending gold ...

I'm not saying it's not easy: it's the easiest thing in the world. Unfortunately, it's not very efficient, because the rules set the tone, and trying to introduce anything that deviates from the rules is going to be an uphill battle. Of course, if you wanted to rule a D&D game where magic...
  17. The Mirrorball Man

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on spending gold ...

No, it's not. Rules set the tone of the game and engender expectations. In previous editions, rules about magic prices lead players to expect to have access to magic shops everywhere. If there were rules about building and buying robots in the PHB, players would expect to be able to build and...

D&D 5E (2014) DM Prepared one page of notes.

That kind of approach probably works very well in 5e, but I think it works even better in 13th Age, a game where an experienced DM can come up with game session after game session using nothing else than the 13 Icons and loose notes.
  19. The Mirrorball Man

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on spending gold ...

What the game lost when it got rid of the Magic-Toys-R'Us rules is dead weight. Not only magic feels magical again in D&D for the first time in a long, long time, but people who can't stomach the change can easily come up with the necessary rules themselves.

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

I can play RPGs for the rest of my life using nothing but a piece of paper and a coin, but buying RPG books is something I enjoy and I would like to be able to purchase new D&D sourcebooks, just for the sake of it, you know? It's not something I need, it's something I want, and really, what's...
