    D&D 5E (2014) Mythic Odysseys of Theros

Sure, but I'm trying to find new basic monsters for Theros, and people keep suggesting the equivalent of "Just use evil dwarves and elves", which is not a bad idea, but not exactly what I'm looking for.

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

The first movie is pretty good, but it's quite distinct from Howard's Conan, in my opinion.

    D&D 5E (2014) Mythic Odysseys of Theros

Hey, it's a very good suggestion, but I was looking for a way to expand a little bit on what's already available.

    D&D 5E (2014) Mythic Odysseys of Theros

Harpies is a good suggestion. Centaurs and minotaurs can be used, but since they are PC races, in my opinion it's harder to use them in the mook role.

    D&D 5E (2014) Mythic Odysseys of Theros

I may be wrong, but it seems to me that the setting is lacking a couple of low-level threats, the equivalent of goblins and orcs. I guess you could use lots and lots of skeletons, as an homage to "Jason and the Argonauts", and you could probably reskin orcs to turn them into smaller cyclops...

D&D General (Anecdotal) conversations with Asian gamers on some problems they currently face in the D&D world of RPG gaming

Yes, it’s a culture, a common ground, a frame of reference. It’s not a hive mind.

D&D General (Anecdotal) conversations with Asian gamers on some problems they currently face in the D&D world of RPG gaming

True, but it's not just an individual thing, it is a cultural thing. If there's one thing we should all learn from this thread, it is that treating North American culture as if it were some kind of reality by default for everyone leads to all kinds of frictions and problems.

D&D General (Anecdotal) conversations with Asian gamers on some problems they currently face in the D&D world of RPG gaming

It's not particularly approprate for young children in the United States. In other cultures, it's different. Here, no one would bat an eye.

D&D 5E (2014) Kate Welch on Leaving WotC

I think there's room for an official rules light version of D&D. In fact, make that two: one for kids, one for adults.

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

I'll let the facts speak for themselves, and I won't irritate you any further.

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

That's cute, but you're not disagreeing with me either. It is obviously hard to tell what's unique about the setting.

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

What's remarkable is how hard it seems to come up with a good marketing hook that tells us what's unique about the setting. It's cool that it's tied to the origins of D&D, but if it's all there is to it, I can just find an old edition of Greyhawk and an old edition of D&D and start playing. It's...

WotC Comparing EN World's Demographics to the D&D Community's

The best we could manage was to pick up the bones of dead rats, use them as dice and imagine the numbers. But you know, we were happy in those days, though we were poor.

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

I think it's fairly easy to come up with a new system for that. A grim and gritty Greyhawk game could have rules about generating a cadre of ready to play characters and how to integrate them seamlessly into the campaign. It could also give tips on how to quickly retool old characters into new...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

That's a good question that someone really should have asked earlier.

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

I think it would probably not be extremely popular, but I guess it could find a niche - people love the Dark Souls video games, after all - whereas the "it’s sword and sorcery but not really" hook is not likely to be a barn-burner.

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

I think Greyhawk could be shaped into the D&D setting you play on "Nightmare" mode, the one where it’s expected that most PCs will not make it out alive in the Temple of Elemental Evil. The one where you keep rolling new characters to replace the ones who died.
