D&D 5E (2014) Anti-DM Tips (AKA what NOT to do!)

    3. Put real world races or religious groups into your game and either subjugate or disenfranchise them. I would suggest playing a colonialism setting with mature players only, as it can get very racist very quickly and might be awkward and off putting for players (especially minorities).

D&D 5E (2014) Uses for Wish (other than Simulacrum)

Read the spell description. Wish can do almost anything you can think of. It is the most powerful spell in the game. It's downside is that when you use it for something other than duplicating spells, there is a chance that it becomes uncastable for good. However, ultimately your dm sets the...

D&D 5E (2014) Next up is Fighter, what do you want from UA?

The fighter scout was already featured in an unearthed arcana.

D&D 5E (2014) 12th Level monk with a speed of 50' had to use half her movement to stand up from prone!

Take the athlete feat. The prone status condition isn't just about being on the ground. Prone almost works like the dazed condition in 4e. Effects that disorient your character momentarily are usually covered by the prone or stunned status condition. Everyone expends half movement to leave the...

D&D 5E (2014) Come up with other Books that WotC could release with a Forgotten Realms theme

Iggwilv's Demonomicon- Should include tana'ri demon lords like Koshitchie, Malcanthet, Oublivae and Shaktari. Obyrith lords such as Pazzuzu, Dagon, Obox-ob, The Queen of Chaos, and Miska the Wolf Spider. More tan'ari statted, obyriths statted. Demonic lairs. Lore on Abyssal layers such as...

D&D 5E (2014) Characters are not their statistics and abilities

I think that last post was littered with false equivalencies. At the end of the day, the noob who multi classed 3 times and doesn't have any ability scores maxed out at level 10 isn't going to inhibit you from playing your character in anyway. The noob might not know their way around an...

D&D 5E (2014) Characters are not their statistics and abilities

I consider the notion of people being upset about ineffectual characters in a fantasy rpg game with absolutely 0 real world consequences to be absolutely ridiculous.

D&D 5E (2014) Up magic for Eldritch Knight

Really not that bad, Relentless Endurance is an amazing feature. +2 to strength and +1 to constitution are relevant stats for you. Darkvision is always useful. Savage attacks is a little bonus, but still its all good for a fighter.

D&D 5E (2014) Up magic for Eldritch Knight

Fire, Wind, and Earth Genasi are pretty good for Eldritch knight.

D&D 5E (2014) Up magic for Eldritch Knight

For your cantrips you want at least one ranged. You have the option of taking Fire bolt, Chill Touch, Ray of Frost, and Create bonfire. For the other two you want to take green flame blade, or booming blade, maybe both. 1st level spells that are necessary are protection from good and evil...

D&D 5E (2014) Dropping your sword during the enemy's turn?

I don't see knowing the parameters of the class well as a problem. I like the fighter and I don't think it is overpowered as a class, I'm just not going to pretend like giving the functions of a feat for free is fair and balanced. Most monsters in the MM won't be able to hit you without a crit...

D&D 5E (2014) Dropping your sword during the enemy's turn?

The AC boost runs out when the fighter runs out of spell slots. The fighter also has access to the indomitable feature which allows the reroll of a failed saving throw. Also, if we are operating under the assumption that the fighter is allowed to cast shield with both hands full, no feat, than...

D&D 5E (2014) Dropping your sword during the enemy's turn?

I've been on both sides of the table, and maybe I won't be able to convince players of that. But as a DM, AC that high changes entire encounters. The level 8 fighter with AC higher than Tiamat can be problematic.

D&D 5E (2014) Up magic for Eldritch Knight

I would say don't take magic initiate. You have access to better feats like alert, observant, war caster, and ritual caster. You already get 3 cantrips and ritual caster widely opens up your spell selection, not forcing you to take something like detect magic.

D&D 5E (2014) Dropping your sword during the enemy's turn?

My problem with it, is that from my point of view it isn't really fair to give that to the fighter. I can understand making allowances for players in a game based on everyone having fun. The people I play with and I tend to go by the rules in situations like this. The Fighter already has access...

D&D 5E (2014) Dropping your sword during the enemy's turn?

That ruling is a bit weird but you're right about that. Still, removing one hand from your weapon and dropping a weapon are different things mechanically, dropping your weapon counts as a free action. Removing 1 hand from a weapon? I don't believe you would even be able to call it that.

D&D 5E (2014) Dropping your sword during the enemy's turn?

Dropping prone on your turn is a free action, dropping your weapon on your turn is a free action. If you're doing it outside of your turn it should be classified as a reaction. They are of similar duration relatively, the question is can you do them. And as far as warcaster being worth it...

D&D 5E (2014) Dropping your sword during the enemy's turn?

I would rule no. A reaction occurs in response to a trigger. The trigger, in this case, is your character being attacked. With spells like shield the character enacts a preventative measure in response to the trigger. While having a sword and shield equipped, you cannot perform the somatic...

D&D 5E (2014) The Role of Dragons in Your Game

In my campaigns dragons are special, and they should be. They are generally smarter, more powerful, older, and a lot bigger than all of the humanoid races. I try to convey to the player characters that ultimately, dragons are just better than you, many of them (the chromatics) see you as cattle...
