Did you ask them to rewrite the game? Who was it? You vaguely hand wave and use a generalization. Why not just make some more great content, like Ravenloft, instead of fracturing the community?

That 4E data is interesting and probably would be a good study into why one brand out performs the other. Is it brand recognition? Is it that 4E was more approachable? Was it poor marketing? Or something else? As for older editions, I completely get that and I think it’s still happening...

IDK I think D&D has a problem (or a boost) that the market has become mainstreamed. This, IMO, has moved the core players to other systems to be away from the mainstreamers.
