D&D 5E (2014) "Surrender or Die" Roared the Barbarian - Making the Opponents Surrender

It does. The problem with the RAW morale check is that IME the swinginess of the d20 makes it much more likely for enemies to flee than they should. With a bell-curve, and automatically rolling when first damaged and bloodied, you have a generally better average result.

D&D 5E (2024) Help with how many attacks

The Feat provides you with a bonus action you can use for an attack. If the character wasn't a monk, you could use your attack action for 2 attacks (action, plus nick) then make the Dual-Wielder Feat bonus action for a third attack. Martial Arts and Flurry of Blows take up the same spot in your...

D&D 5E (2014) "Surrender or Die" Roared the Barbarian - Making the Opponents Surrender

I think using Morale checks is a simpler method. If you don't like the swinginess of the d20, replace it with a 2d10 roll instead (as was done in 2E). Social skills can be used to force a Morale check as an action.

D&D 5E (2014) Lycanthrope Player Characters - How Would YOU Do It?

I would go the opposite way of this DM: either I wouldn't allow it, or I'd have it be an actual curse that afflicts the character periodically/monthly. While I understand the lack of "lupine" options for PCs in 5E, lycantropy is supposed to be a serious curse that can forever change a character.

D&D 5E (2024) Help with how many attacks

That sounds about right, but I'm hardly an expert on 2024 yet.

D&D General This and official D&D novels colored what D&D is for me.

As someone from the old days of MUDs, I was the same. We used to refer to it as EverCrack due to the addictive nature it had. Dragonlance was key for me as well. I didn't get into the Realms until college, because that was the setting the DM there used.

Planescape Help out a Clueless - Returning to the Material Plane from Sigil?!

In theory, there's a portal to anywhere in the City of Doors. Finding the right one and the right time, however... good luck! Toril is a more common place to return to, so you might be able to find one. The guilds and factions are your best bet, but everything has a price. Also note, there are...

D&D 5E (2024) How Important Is The Lore

Yes, but it's from the Realms, which is a monster for lore. The DM was familiar with the setting, but one of the players had read most of the novels and every sourcebook for every edition. He knew the puzzle answer without having to do the associated quest, leaving the DM without anything else...

D&D 5E (2024) How Important Is The Lore

I want it to be there, not because I like it (I generally don't), but because new players and DM need something as a baseline to work from. I'm still into the old AD&D lore, and I know that I wouldn't be if it wasn't in the core books. While I may have a different frame of reference, people new...

D&D 5E (2024) Let's talk about the Rules Glossary in the PHB

I'm neutral on the layout. We had a standard style in the 2014 book, and while it made understanding the rules a bit easier (with the logical reading order), it made finding specific rules difficult. Learning the rules for 2024 is a bit harder, but I imagine they're going to be much easier to...

D&D 5E (2014) How Often Do You Rinse and Repeat?

Since I DM more than play, I voted as a DM. Monsters generally don't have a lot of options, so I usually go with the best choice each round. This means I typically do the same stuff over and over again, but occasionally an ability will recharge or things will line up to use a non-standard...

Worlds of Design: How Long is Your Game Meant to Be?

I definitely prefer the full campaign, but I always keep the story in mind. My first 5E campaign went from level 1-17, having three distinct story arcs that culminated into an overarching story. I did a Saltmarsh campaign in 5E that only went to level 7, because that's as much story as I had for...

D&D 5E (2014) What 5E Product Are You Most Looking Forward To in 2025?

I don't even know what else is coming out in 2025, but I'm drooling over the Monster Manual. I'm currently about halfway through running Vecna:EoR, but I'm prepping for my next campaign in Greyhawk. The tidbits in the DMG got me excited again, but I really wanna see what I'm going to be working...

D&D General what would a standard human pantheon look like?

One of my homebrewed settings was monotheistic*, with one god that didn't directly interact with the world. Instead, people prayed to the pantheon of saints who would intervene on their behalf. I didn't even have to detail out a bunch of them, just making them up as I needed them. *Technically...

    D&D General Best dungeons?

Personal favorite that I've played once and ran numerous times: the original Temple of Elemental Evil. The players start with minimal information about what's going on, and have the ability to learn it from captured enemies. They can try to bull rush in, or search for alternate entrances and...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you do Bastions?

My next campaign is going to be 2024, and I'm expecting to use the bastion system. The general assumption of the campaign is that they're going to work for a faction in the Free City of Greyhawk (I have a couple in mind), and I'm figuring the party will be given the bastion by the faction as a...

D&D 5E (2014) What Level is the Party after 56 Sessions?

This is a bit shorter than my preferred sessions. My general assumption is level 1 & 2 will take a session each, levels 3 & 4 will take about 2-3 sessions each, and each level after that taking about 4 sessions each. This leads us to about level 16, but I'd probably round down to level 14 due to...

D&D General Which published TTRPG settings do each D&D ancestry best?

I really like the Birthright Elves. They're immortal, just like in Tolkien lore. They don't have gods, so they have no clerics, just druids. As for the other ancestries... I'm not a specific fan of them enough to have a favorite setting for them. Or, like me, they prefer the term to "species."
