Koukonsögur - Saga of the Trollfed Aerie - IC

Nah, can't knock anyone else into the fire, and that was the only really good move I saw.

Koukonsögur - Saga of the Trollfed Aerie - IC

Satoshi walks into the middle of the chaos filled room, divine light starting to flow from his eyes. As the moon's light finally enters the dank cave, everything seems to go silent, just for a moment. Satoshi whispers, and every syllable seems to echo throughout the chamber as he summons...

What is good for D&D as a game vs. what is good for the company that makes it

What seems odd to me in this conversation is that when discussing subscription models, there seems to be an assumption that when your subscription to the online tools runs out, you won't have the rules anymore and will be unable to play. This would seem to ignore the idea that you could just...

Does clerical healing magic (e.g. cure light wounds) close wounds?

I've seen it done too, especially now that I'm getting back into face-to-face games after a few months of PbP only. Maybe I brought some of it with me after getting used to a more description reliant form of play. I like it, though, and my players are getting into it, too. Anyway, the...

Evil Campaigns: How do you feel about them?

Alignment labels did not create morality.

How long, in real time, would you expect a campaign from 1-30 to take?

We've been getting about 1 level per 4 sessions, so assuming we play 40/52 weeks of the year(because we do miss some and that number is simple for the math), it'd be about 3 years. I suspect it will take a bit longer than that, though, maybe 3 and half.

Tell Me of Your Annual Halloween Game!

Not entirely sure what I'll do for Halloween. Usually I find something Halloween themed to put into the usual game. I think this year they're going to find out the orc clan they're off to visit are all were-tigers a little too early for Halloween, though. Maybe I can steer them into the...

Evil Campaigns: How do you feel about them?

I don't quite think this is true, Jerkwad Evil aside. I think it's true that evil characters are more often cast is proactive roles, while heroic characters are more often reactive, that is, The Bad Guy plans Bad Stuff and the Heroes stop him. Adventure paths, ime, do rely on reactive...

In the Spotlight: 4th edition and DPR

Sounds like a group thing. Most groups I've played with remember scenarios, not numbers. Things like, "Remember when half the party was dead and Kyle's paladin held the door so the survivors could get out, and it would have killed him, but for the sorcerer's wind spell that dragged him out...

[Adventure] Little Workshop of Horrors (Judge: stonegod)

Canus gives a slight cough, managing to give off the the impression of being slightly offended. "Of course, such things are not an issue with myself around. Insurance, of a sort."

I immediately thought of monsters that explode when they hit 0.

What's the big deal with large PCs?

The problem with squeezing and more attackers is that they sound like great disadvantages, but really aren't. Take passages, first. Maybe you play with dungeon tiles and use a lot of small areas(note that 2x2 passageways are pretty much cool for a large defender). Now the clever use of...

In the PDF age all adventures should be compatible with all editions

Yes, you definitely could, and it did occur to me. But making them minions is just one more(albeit tiny) step of conversion, and really, anything with 3-8 HP is probably going down in one hit anyway. Slight correction, this thread is about modules expected to run for any edition. This tangent...

[Adventure] Trouble in Daunton (DM: Nebten, Judge: Currently Looking)

Howler gives a brief chuckle. "Works for me, Dove. I'll be right behind ye." And he gets ready to follow.

In the PDF age all adventures should be compatible with all editions

Some people prefer not to as it can interfere with treasure by level guidelines/treasure parcels. Ultimately, hidden treasure, like specific gemstones, comes down to stylistic preference, but it's one I associate with older modules. I can't, for example, think of any 3e or 4e module that...

Hidden treasure and mention of specific gemstones says AD&D to me.

Evil Campaigns: How do you feel about them?

Basically, I'd love to run an evil campaign with the same social etiquette as a good one, but, ime, when a players says, "I would like to play an evil campaign." this actually means, "I am tired of following Wheaton's Law. I would like to be a jerk, to you, to the other players, to the NPCs, to...

    PCs dealing with sexuality

In my experience, the sexuality of bi- and homosexually oriented characters have always been either played as a joke, swept under the rug, or simply not addressed at all. This makes it, again in my experience, exactly equal to heterosexuality.

Evil Campaigns: How do you feel about them?

I said "Other". I would love to one day be involved in a maturely handled, thematically engaging evil campaign. Alas, it is the unicorn. I have no patience for the "I just want to be a jerk" evil campaigns.
