[Adventure] Serpent's Skull: Souls for Smuggler's Shiv (DM: Mewness; Judge: THB)

Thanks, jbear. It feels like everyone is just setting me up to be awesome in this fight and I could not be more appreciative! Telling the story about the lightning spell being too much was fun, but this is even better! His foe vanquished, Noriaki sheathes his sword and immediately begins...

Is it time to re-integrate the specific games sub-forums?

I like current set-up. I think mixing the Edition War sides would just cause predictable in-fighting, and the mods aren't our moms(even my mom would smack me for edition warring, probably, though). As it stands, I like that even if things get a bit hot in a general thread, I can go browse 4e...

    You Need a New Avatar

Just put in a request. The guys there don't get to every request, but they try. From personal experience, they're very accommodating.

    Rule of 3: 10/31/2011

I have that information easily from the 4e MM1, which does not tell about the bulette's dietary habits. It has a bite attack, it burrows(most burrowing creatures use claws for this), it is Large, and there is a picture. What else would a creature with these features eat, if not anything it...

I don't get the dislike of healing surges

Like Hussar pointed out, a number of those things break base assumptions of 3e. Now, your games worked fine, I'm sure. With a bit of tweaking here and there to make sure of it. The 3e chassis can handle a number of different playstyles. So can 4e. I think it's easy to lose sight of that if...

    Rule of 3: 10/31/2011

I don't see how it's so contradictory. Obviously they thought it was worth including some level of fluff, otherwise there would just be none. The choices, then, all came down to how much fluff and on which monsters. It's quite possible that though he is behind the ideas that led to the...

Why Do You Play Evil Characters?

Same reason I play any other character: the character concept seemed intriguing. I don't play the type of jerkoff evil that stabs all the other players in the back and burns down the town for giggles, but, say, the lawless ruffian on the verge of redemption, or the evil man willing to do the...

    Rock Falls, Everyone Dies

As you grip the bejewelled Sword of Tholtig, you are struck by the BBEG's final trap. A vile and potent curse of mediocrity strikes you and everyone in your party. You go home. The wizard decides to take what he has learned and publish papers in academia, but it turns out his experiences...

    [IC] WD's Dragonfist

Song, reluctant to eat the food, tries to press the conversation instead. "Ah, madam, it is sad to see that even hospitable persons like yourself are persecuted in these tough times. Be sure that we would not betray our host to such vagaries."

I don't get the dislike of healing surges

There's a nuance here that seems rather important to me. In pemerton's example, the player specifically asks if he knows an alternate route due to his intimate knowledge of the city. If your players don't want an additional route to exist that was previously unmapped, they probably aren't...

Yes, you can make the rolls for me, too. It keeps things moving.

    Are feats the problem?

Feats aren't the problem any more than the straw is the problem when it breaks the camel's back. First, let me suggest that you double-check your players' sheets for anything that is out of place. IME, a simple problem that can be detected by such is the root of most serious OP problems...

Which is fair enough. I make that assumption, too. And you know, I've been seriously wounded four times in my still young life. Three of which I still bear scars from. All of them I was still walking within 5 minutes of getting the wound. In all of them, recovery was an after the fact...

"Cheat Codes". To think I once responded as though we could have any real conversation on an issue regarding the game. I hang my head, now, in remembrance of the fool I have been. Consider yourself ignored.

DMs: What are your character pet peeves?

For me, The ___ Stupid alignment character. Whether its the Lawful Stupid, the Stupid Evil or anything an oddball player can concoct, if I have to cock an eyebrow at him mid-game and say, "Really, man? I said before the campaign that this behavior was not acceptable." I'll be mad. I mean, I...

I don't get the dislike of healing surges

All this does is assume a hardline "HP=Wounds" stance, which, as I've described in detail, is far more damaging to my immersion than treating them as a narrative device.

I don't get the dislike of healing surges

I think this is a false choice. If you are hit for damage that will heal overnight in 3.x, that damage heals overnight, no choice involved. If you are hit for a week's worth of damage, you can either wait a week, or if magic is available, not at all. If any real consequence rides on the wait...
