    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog: Tone and Edition

I think, as others have said they should change the terms. I like the idea of Original, Classic, and Modern. Though I guess every new race would end up being labeled modern...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E: Is it possible?

A lot of the rules arguments over the past couple of years have boiled down to what an edition can't provide towards someone's gaming style. A lot of the people arguing, have evben mentioned that they've moved on to other games... Yet they still argue about D&D so clearly D&D is still important...

    The best thing for DND...

I think it would be equally bad if it resembles 3e or 1e or 2e, and not all of the above. If the game excludes anyone in favor of one group it's going to further the edition wars, and player base split. What I think they should do personally is just re-release all of the editions, and support...

D&D 5E (2014) Monte Cook Leaves WotC - No Longer working on D&D Next [updated]

Again if you think it doesn't apply to you, that's cool. I'm not saying anyone in particular. It's just my opinion. I'd be happy if I'm wrong. I'm afraid I'm not.

D&D 5E (2014) Monte Cook Leaves WotC - No Longer working on D&D Next [updated]

If it doesn't apply to you it doesn't apply to you- I'm not naming names. I'm talking about the edition wars in general. WoTC makes an edition, and then despite saying things like "play what you like" people argue and fight about what style is "true" D&D, or whether the changes make it no...

D&D 5E (2014) Monte Cook Leaves WotC - No Longer working on D&D Next [updated]

I think the biggest issue is that gamers, rather then look to see if a game is fun, look for reasons for it to validate their personal taste over someone else's. I think that's the REAL goal of 5e. Not really to make a game that we all sit around singing kumbaya this is the greatest game...

D&D 5E (2014) Monte Cook Leaves WotC - No Longer working on D&D Next [updated]

Doubtful. I'm guessing if anything it's some sort of company policy. Possibly that anything he does while there is considered property of WoTC, so his other stuff like Dungeon a Day, and Malhavoc stuff, and possibly book deals, would be owned by WoTC.

Supporting the "Three Pillars" Combat, Exploration and Roleplay equally?

They would just need to work some sort of flavor into it. Some magic is more powerfull but less controlled. Things like fireball, and stuff... It's mianly just raw energy, less controlled and lasts less time, but easier to memorize. Rituals would be more controlled, but would be harder to cast.

    What about my dragonborn

Didn't they say they planned to put any race that has been in a PHB in the first release?

    D&D 5E (2014) The outer core of 5E!

I'm thinking the "splats" concept might be changed up a bit with all the talk of modules and what not.

    What *is* D&D

Well... According to the 80s it's: 1. The DM placing you in a precarious position. 2. The most phenomenal game ever created. 3. Your Skin growing cold from the first glimpse of the enormous beast. 4. A product of your imagination. 5. Your Survival depending on a quick decision. 6. Your...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next weekly art column!

Wasn't that supposed to be the front? They ended up doing the retro one as a sort of special edition thing to make people happy, with the plan to revert to the new cover after the first print run ran out or something. (They should have realized that doing something with the goal of making...

Realism vs. Believability and the Design of HPs, Powers and Other Things

Well you are and you aren't and that's what I'm trying to say. The idea of someone shouting wounds closed (without magic) is unbelievable no question. I don't have any issue with you coming to that conclusion. The problem is saying that 4e forces this on you and causes an...

Realism vs. Believability and the Design of HPs, Powers and Other Things

What I think is that you're kind of stating things incorrectly. It's not a problem with 4e being unbelievable when it comes to hit points and healing, but a problem with 4e not matching your personal preference for how those mechanics are interpreted. Nowhere in the rules does it indicate that...

D&D 5E (2014) Dear 5e design team: Please research earlier editions

I think it just kind of gives people a way to kind of show there is a difference between weapons, but without getting to complex about it.

Any news out of PAX East?

Hah- this kind of happened to me with 3e... I'd stopped gaming for a couple of years do to time and what not... Then one day there happened to be a convention going on near me and I wandered in to check out the dealers room.. What... There's 3rd edition?????
