    Mearls New Campaign

I think that if you really wanted to make it simple there isn't a need for race AND Class. (Check out the new Gamma World.) I think also it would work well for what they're saying the idea behind 5e is- the ability to layer on complexity. Start with a very simple, and then if you want layer on...

    The Very Very Core...

It might be a core resolution mechanic, but it's not what I meant- Or do you really feel like if you handed someone a d20 and just told them to roll high all the time it would feel like D&D? It's part of D&D sure, but I'm not sure it's the ONLY thing you need.

    The Very Very Core...

Yeah secretly (or not so much) that's what I hope the very basic level of 5e is. Everything else would be layered on top by the players.

    The Very Very Core...

So if they were making the basic bottom level version of the game... Stripped of as many rules as possible what would you believe still needs to be in the game in order for it to be playable, and I Guess still feel like D&D. (Based on rules that currently exist in some form of D&D) I'm...

    L&L 3/05 - Save or Die!

Guess we did because I've never had an experience as you describe. Most of mine was the player begging someone to get to him.

    L&L 3/05 - Save or Die!

This I disagree with completely based on the way things played out with the death saves at my 4e table. Each and every roll that counted towards the dreaded three was a tense moment, as the player in question preyed he could hold on just a bit longer until someone might be able to get there and...

Old School : Tucker's Kobolds and Trained Jellies

My general opinion is start small, and build from there. My HOPE is that basic bottom level 5e sort of resembles Basic or OD&D. Characters can be built in a manner of minutes and improving an entire session will be simple for the DM, with a very bare minimum amount of RAW. I DON'T want the...

    L&L 3/05 - Save or Die!

Thinking about it more- even though "make it a module" seems to be turning into D&D's version of "We'll fix it in post!" I think this might actually be something that would benefit from being a "module." I think anyone can admit that SoD have a definite effect on the tone/experience of a...

    L&L 3/05 - Save or Die!

I'm not a huge save or die fan. People talk about them serving some sort of purpose about teaching people some random lesson or what not, but I've hardly ever seen it. The vast majority of times what I've seen is it teaching people that not saving sucks, or that the DM is an A-Hole. :P That...

New WotC Article - The Role of Skills

I actually could support this. It would also let them tie "secondary skills" into themes and such.

New WotC Article - The Role of Skills

I think I like the idea of unlimited based on stats, but a few that you can list as being "trained" in.

Old School : Tucker's Kobolds and Trained Jellies

Above is why I'm hoping 5e can give us a game where some people can say: "This small subset of rules are the only 'Official' rules in our campaign, everything else we'll just wing."

Old School : Tucker's Kobolds and Trained Jellies

See the thing is I don't think it's fair to say that's an oldschool vrs newschool thing, unless you want to say newschool started the moment after the first books were published ever. It's quite possible that based on a houserule, or a rule from dragon or whatever that the "oldschool" player...

She IS still suffering from the awkward pose to show off her "ASSets" thing... Like that Avengers poster that went around recently. 13 year old me LOVED this artwork... especially since it was pre-internet... 35 year old me can understand why some find it offensive. (While secretly still...

    XP for goals only

Back in 2e we always played no XP awarded until the end of the "adventure" which kind of just worked out to be the same thing. I don't mind XP for killing monsters, but there should be XP awarded for other stuff to. In order to be "complete goal" just add up all the xp that would have been...

Post your Top 20 D&D Illustrations of All Time!

I posted this in another thread, but I think I figured out why I like a lot of the images I do. The ones I like best have a lot more attention to things like contrast/ and hightlights/shadows... A lot of art these days feels "flat" to me, so it kind of feels a little weird.

Old School : Tucker's Kobolds and Trained Jellies

I think the argument is somewhat misguided, or maybe a chicken and egg scenario? Even in early editions there were a preponderance of people who felt that if there wasn't a rule for it, you couldn't do it. There were also people who wanted everything by the books at all times. (We used to make...

    D&D 5E (2014) I hope this isn't 5E...(art that screams "not this, not this!")

For me it's not that the sword is "too big." I get it- she's supposed to have a sword from a giant. But it's not even proportioned properly for a giant. The handle still happens to be wide enough around that it's only slightly bigger then a normal sword. It's longer, but not by a lot. It ends...

    D&D 5E (2014) I hope this isn't 5E...(art that screams "not this, not this!")

Yeah I think the nostalgia in me makes me like the art in the Rules Cyclopedia. :) I think I've figured out what I dislike about a lot of the new art... it feels "flat" to me. Like not enough time was spent on contrast, and shadows and highlights and stuff.

JohnSnow get out of my head man! I think the majority of what you posted is on my top 20! I guess it doesn't hurt that I am also an Elmore fan... I think this one in particular has always been one of my top favorites. It's an example of what I like in my D&D art. It's so simply, yet it gets my...
