How can you be a teenage boy and NOT like this painting by Caldwell? :P

I don't know if I agree... I think it's possible to portray "god like" abilities without it feeling hyper exaggerated.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e and Windows 8

TSR AD&D? The people playing it seemed to ignore the flaws and proclaim it didn't have any, TSR tried to keep tight control over products designed for it, and sued everyone for copyright. :P

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next weekly art column!

You know what I'm thinking... It would be cool if they taylor the art towards what the product is... Like If it's a campaign I think I'd rather see the detailed styles of people like Elmore. They help me envision the world as a real place. If it's a dungeoncrawl style adventure I want to see...

Post your Top 20 D&D Illustrations of All Time!

I am right there with you on your entire statement. Dragonslayers is on my top 20... I think it might be number 1. For me: It takes place in fall/winter. I've always for some reason though of fall/winter as being the "season" that most reminds me of D&D. I don't know if that's because a lot...

    D&D 5E (2014) appendix Next

I disagree. The purpose, from my reading, was simply to cite works that he found inspirational when cobbling together the rules, and a campaign. To that end Appendix N(ew) should contain stuff that people actually have found inspirational towards writing the rules or building a campaign.

    D&D 5E (2014) I hope this isn't 5E...(art that screams "not this, not this!")

Totally agree. I think I'd lean towards it as well, simply because then you make characters modern people can more readily identify with. (That said I think Elmore kind of over did it with how much influence he let in at times. I think it's possible to be influenced but maintain a more classic...

    D&D 5E (2014) I hope this isn't 5E...(art that screams "not this, not this!")

True I don't use it at the table, but art is really important to me. When I pick up a book and it has artwork I really like, it instantly gets my mind flowing, and puts me in the right "mood" for writing an adventure or making a character.

My hat Cy Onyx knows no limits! Or Go psi Fi!

Man I think psionics have been a divisive thing since the very beginning. Good luck! :P

Well I can agree on the half nekkidness, but the big hair I think was just because that was really the hairstyle type of the time... Check out my old yearbooks from then... Big hair galore. :P

If they had a free day...

Baseball is a lot older then RPGs which are, relatively new. s others have mentioned, Baseball also went through a LARGE number of changes over the years some very substantial. Aside from that- from stories I've heard of Gygax he seemed to be a very avid reader. If Appendix N had been...

    AD&D 2E 2E specialty clerics

Ah I didn't actually have the Complete Priest. I had the Forgotten Realms Adventures book, and those Specialty priests seemed to be a case of "here's a bunch of new cool stuff you can do... Drawbacks... oh umm..." :P

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next: Deal with it, DM?

You are right. We should argue and fight all the time, and lose friends. Much better. :)

    AD&D 2E 2E specialty clerics

Interesting... It seems to me the specialty clerics were more powerful. They had added bonuses with little to no drawbacks.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next: Deal with it, DM?

I think it's about giving groups the tools to make whatever they feel the best combination of rules is. It's not about one person getting everything and the others being told to suffer. Will there be some rules that someone wants to use that no one else does? Probably. Will there be some rules...

DM Empowerment vs. Player Entitlement - Is this really that prevalent?

I think DM Empowerment is a bad name for it. It makes it kind of sound like the DM is supposed to lord it over the players, when that's not it at all. I like games that put more stock in the DM arbitrating things rather then a rule for everything, because I feel that they flow better/faster...

L&L: Putting the Vance in Vancian

There are an awful lot of people who still post to D&D sites and still argue and fight about D&D even when they proclaim not to like the current system. The fact that they're posting to the D&D website (to me at least) seems to indicate they still have some sort of connection with the brand. I...
