A little of both I'd say.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Will Epic Fail If

Unfortunately you are right- People will be polarized. instead of just asking "Am I a fun game?" they will for some reason think it's a one or the other thing.

I agree with that- I've played systems that annoy the crap out of me because my group wanted to play them, and still had tons of fun. What I'm looking forward to is if they get the modularity down, then it will feel more like AD&D did to me (I hope) in that there were so many different systems...

I think they can... what I see as a potential problem is getting past the attitude people seem to have of my way or the highway... IE the ability for others to do something they want in the game seems to upset people for some reason. it's not enough that they can do what THEY want to do, they...

What I'm hoping is that it does a reasonably good job giving options and feel from each edition, as all of them have good and bad ideas. I'd like to mix styles into something truly unique.

I've tried to DL the beta rules, but it looks like they took the page down? Are they still available anywhere does anyone know?

True, I don't like hate them or anything, but I guess I wish they added more options as far as race/class combos.

Haven't seen enough about the game to know what this would do.

    Concerns for the Playtest.

Is it accelerated? They said in the original announcement that the play tests would start in Spring of 2012. May 24th is only a month away from Summer.

    Concerns for the Playtest.

I will happily shoulder any ill outcomes from my optimism. No need to fear for my well being. :)

    Concerns for the Playtest.

Not when there is no supporting evidence whatsoever to raise the concern. You just end up getting people scared to cross perfectly safe streets.

    Concerns for the Playtest.

Because needless concerns create bad feelings and poor morale for no reason.

    Concerns for the Playtest.

Eh... Not sure I agree with the idea that all what if scenarios are the same. I think in this case it's needless worrying. Since there is nothing pointing in the direction of the playtest being faulty, then there is no reason to worry about it.

    Concerns for the Playtest.

So it's just pessimism/ worrying about imagined "What if?" scenarios.

    Concerns for the Playtest.

I'm just wondering what is causing the concern? Do you have evidence to show this might be the case, or are you just concerned about a possible random "What if?" scenario?

Your first post states your concerns, but does not give any indication as to what is causing you to have those concerns.

    Fighter Powers, and Magic Items

Well this isn't like a fully thought out idea, just an idea. But you could keep the math based on the classes themselves, and the "effects" based on the item. Then split items to have different effects that can be invoked by different classes.
