Thanks. Where are you guys getting all of this from? Like full transcript quotes?

Dislike the heavily vancian quality, and that default wizards are pretty lacking in AWs - you have to spend feats to not have to use a crossbow. But we get confirmation of: skills, feats, Assassin, Bard... Agreed. The problem with conditions is that you had too many flying around in a round...

Bugger. I loved having a bard that was useful in a fight.

    D&D 4E Help, I’m a Terrible (4E) DM

The fighter MAY have a feat or item that lets him have a +x to y defense for the first round/until he gets hit/whatever. But I agree, there is no reason he should have a +10 to AC. Please show us his sheet. Sure, I was just saying if he wanted to see the powers themselves, he didn't have to dig...

    D&D 4E Help, I’m a Terrible (4E) DM

Damn. I knew to target a PC's weak NADs, but never thought to change an attack that target powerful defense x to weaker defense y. (Be aware a fighter is going to have a beefy fort). Also, don't be afraid to shoot the fighter with some vs. Will attacks too from controllers. Duergar stats can be...

Heroes of the Elemental Chaos Excerpts

I was drinking tea, but this thread turned it too bitter.

    Relevant Orcs

Yes. 8 out of 10 encounters were goblinoids. Even if they had funky new powers (Which they did not), I want to see different things. So my complaint is that I don't want to keep facing them. Also, that after a certain point, I want to be beyond the reach of something I fought at low levels.

    D&D 4E Help, I’m a Terrible (4E) DM

Are you certain that your players aren't having fun? Most players really enjoy tearing monsters apart. They may not be fearing for their characters lives, but are they bored? Boredom is the enemy here. Fun is the goal here. If they're not bored, and they're having fun, than the "challenge"...

    Relevant Orcs

The last campaign I was in, we fought goblins & hogoblins for 6 levels. I was so bored. After a certain point I don't want Orcs to be a threat. Orcs should not be a threat to the Archmage of Wherever - he should be able to turn them to cinders and concern himself with dragons and drow. What's...

    D&D 5E (2014) No ascending bonuses: A mathematical framework for 5e

This seems relevant to a lot of what has been discussed: "Instead of the fighter getting a better and better attack bonus, he instead gets more options to do stuff as he goes up in level, and his attack bonus goes up at a very modest rate. I think it offers a better play experience that the...

    The Keep Rule

"We can also have other options, like building a castle, having followers and vassals. We can build that into what high level characters get." - Monte Cook.

Gardmore Abbey Sidetrek Help Needed- (Possible Spoilers)

Since a beholder has a disintegration ray, it can create its own lair by just disintegrating a honeycomb of tunnels. My guess would be that it finds a good spot and just starts digging. This might cause it to break into the lair of something else and either kill that, or use it as an ally. It...

PC and NPC Secrets - Looking for Suggestions

-My actions caused the death of innocents (collateral damage in an Area of Effect spell, I was too slow and failed to save someone from being sacrificed/eaten, I was drunk on guard duty and the individual I was guarding got assassinated). -In (a secret room/property my family owns), I have...

Of all the complaints about 3.x systems... do you people actually allow this stuff ?

There's a comic book store in NP that has a shelf with gaming products and some dice, but they have no gaming space. Thanks for asking tho. :) Funnily enough, I have just got together with some local guys I connected with on ENWorld. WE'll see how that goes.

Of all the complaints about 3.x systems... do you people actually allow this stuff ?

I'm not taking about a GOOD GM in terms of say, being a jerk or not. But purely system mastery/skill in order to compensate for system issues. You also have newbies/inexperienced DMs, casual DMs, Dms who are good at Y but not at X, etc. There are systems out there that are not user friendly...

Of all the complaints about 3.x systems... do you people actually allow this stuff ?

To put this another way: A game system that is built on the assumption that all DM/groups have strong social pacts/management is like a legal system that is built on the assumption that everyone is a honest and good person on their best behavior. A game that assumes that you need to be a Good...

Lots and lots of wands of CLW. These take the pressure off the Clerics to use their slots for healing spells. Running out means just a little gold to get a new one.

Of all the complaints about 3.x systems... do you people actually allow this stuff ?

Reminds me of an anecdote off the boards here. DM was running a published adventure for 12th level PCs. PCs come into a room and out pops a single bodak. A bodak, being a CR 8 monster, is well below their challenge rating. But bam, two PCs killed in the surprise round because of the save-or-die...
