Yeah Bob is definitely one of the better Youtubers. He doesn't try to be click baity and most of his stuff is just about running the game.

I've never even thought about this or have I ever needed to, but it's a great question. I would say the player owns the PC. They put the time into developing the character. If I ever use a PC in the future I'd definitely ask permission from the player.

If the 2014 phb goes out of print, can't find it on shelves after 2024, I don't see what it matters. The 2024 phb will be THE phb going forward.

Most of the time because it feels like a natural stopping point. That and it's easier to remember where to pick up for next session. We've had times were we ended sessions in dungeons but it's usually ended when a long rest happens.

You have a point. It would be prime time to call it whatever they like. Although if it wasn't called PHB that would break "tradition" and probably upset some folks. I'm not saying either is right or wrong just thinking out loud so to speak.

Eventually it'll be the only D&D PHB. I think it if they labeled it differently and stopped producing the 2014 PHB it could possibly be more confusing to new players.

I bought the Shattered Obelisk box and it was fully loaded with beautiful maps, DM tools like creature cards you can drape on the DM screen, the whole adventure being separated into booklets and even bonus adventure material, and don't forget the sweet sweet mind flayer minis. It was expensive...

I'm not really understanding why you seem to think WotC is trying to hide that the new books will be replacements for the current core books. They've been pretty open about this. They have also been pretty open that the new books will not make your older 5e adventures incompatible. The new books...

I plan on getting the new books but my game will keep running forward. I definitely plan to play older adventures that I haven't gotten the chance to run yet and I'm not seeing any major hurdles so far.

I've kinda fell back to collecting prepainted minis (gotta say the recent 2017 and up wizkids D&D minis have gotten pretty nice). Put my resin printer to work for dungeon dressing like barrels and crates etc. I definitely need a dedicated space for my mini painting, hopefully I can get back to it.
