I don't have the book yet, so haven't read this... but why not just change the mechanism, so that after the soul powers the machine for 3 days or however many charges, they are released from the machine as a "free" soul in Hell?

Where are you guys buying games? If you pre-order from Amazon, they are usually $49. And, video games generally drop in price pretty quickly. I have spent more hours than I care to admit playing Division and Division 2...

Um, I believe Dire Bare is arguing that games should be priced much higher... not free or low cost. Dire Bare is saying it is fine if only a handful of people play it because only a handful of people are willing to spend the money on it. Games stores are not going to want to carry a $250 book...

There is likely a reason that we don't see game publishers using your model... it just isn't realistic.

RPGs need enough people to purchase the books in order to have a thriving gaming community. If you charge too much, your audience, and hence community will be smaller. It'll be difficult to support 3rd party publishers... again because the community is smaller.

I have always liked the idea of Shadowrun, and have even bought a fair amount of 4th and 5th edition material. Unfortunately, my eyes always glaze over when I start reading the rulebook...

New site looks pretty nice. Will take some getting used to... wondering if the grey background should be a tad darker so the lighter areas stand out more? But, still nice.

I kinda like this rule actually. I would probably penalize people who wear light armor as well... maybe not as much... recover half their spent hit dice? In practice though, I may not use this rule... too much to keep track of as it is. We'll see.

My group is just starting out in this adventure. They just arrived in the port. Any advice people have for what worked and what didn't when they ran this would be appreciated. Also, I plan to reduce the deadly-ness of the adventure somewhat... especially from traps. I am not a fan of traps...

That's one reason they wore surcoats.... blocks the sun from metal armor.

I like these ideas. I just started running ToA for my group. Luckily, no character has armor beyond light armor in this group. But, even at that, I am having them purchase "Chultian" versions of the armor... as you mentioned, armor made from fish scales (check out arapaima) or or dinosaur...

The only version of D&D that I didn't care for was 4e. I remember liking 4e quite a bit while reading about it... thinking "this is cool." But, when it came to running it, there was just too much to keep track of. I was trying to run it for my kids who were fairly young at the time.

I'll likely pick up this starter set primarily for the adventure. I love low level adventures. I have been playing D&D since the early 80s and don't think I have ever played a character beyond 7th level.
