    So how do we respond?

I've been excited about the 50th anniversary, but I've been dreading switching to a new edition. I like 5th but I haven't had enough time with it. Due to a long standing Pathfinder campaign my Table didn't switch to 5th edition till 2018. Then we lost 2 years during the Pandemic. I expect to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Teleport Houserule: Remove the Off-Target %distance

Very well, carry on. But I'm watching you guys. No more funny business.

    D&D 5E (2014) Teleport Houserule: Remove the Off-Target %distance

We need to nip this in the bud right now. The distance for being 'off-target' is not 1d10 x 10 miles. It is instead, 1d10 x 1d10 percent of the distance that was to be teleported. Therefore, if we tried to teleport 1 mile, then 1 mile is the maximum distance we can be off target. there is no...

    D&D 5E (2014) Teleport Houserule: Remove the Off-Target %distance

Sorry, I was just trying to call attention to another thread from yesterday that was uncannily similar to this one.

    D&D 5E (2014) Teleport Houserule: Remove the Off-Target %distance

It's actually 1d10 x 1d10. Which makes for a very strange range of possible values.

    D&D 5E (2014) Teleport Houserule: Remove the Off-Target %distance

Sounds like a Modern Magic problem. If magic is knowable and predictable then yeah, we better know where the teleportation circles are located. But, if magic is mysterious, then we may not always know what we're going to get*. Players: "Hey! No fair! This hidden teleportation circle we just...

    1d10 x 1d10

Oops, I was confusing this with the chance of mishaps table. So, it's a beneficial distribution. Weird, but beneficial.

    1d10 x 1d10

I wonder if the developers knew what they were doing when they chose this multiplication method of generating a percentage. The distribution is highly skewed away from being "on target".

    1d10 x 1d10

If we are "off-target" when we cast teleport, we end up a distance from our intended target equal to 1d10 x 1d10 percent of the distance we intended to teleport. Interesting, why don't we just roll d%? Is there a difference between 1d10 x 1d10 and d%? Does rolling 1d10 x 1d10 generate numbers...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Gloves Are Off?

There are a million thing or characters do that we don't expressly narrate. How could we? When is the last time your character went to the bathroom? For my characters, the answer is whenever they want to, I'm not going to keep track of that minutia. And, if the Dungeon Master says a snake bites...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Gloves Are Off?

Do you have underwear on your characters' equipment lists (with secret pockets sewn into them), or do your characters go commando? 🙃

D&D 5E (2014) Making Spell Foci more interesting

Oh, that's easy. A totem is the same thing as a fetish. 🙃

D&D 5E (2014) Making Spell Foci more interesting

I would switch sprig of mistletoe and totem for the druidic foci. It just makes more sense to me. But, then again, there ain't no other me but me.

    D&D General I DM because...

I come from a round-robin tradition where we all take turns as Dungeon Master. We each take turns running our own adventures in our own worlds that we create or purchase. In 2005 I started running games in earnest when I got the band back together again, so to speak, after a six year hiatus. I...

D&D General Would It Matter To You if D&D Books Were Illustrated by AI Instead of Humans?

Does a program like this mash-up the works of artists it was trained on to produce an image? In my understanding (and, to be clear, I don't understand it) is that it predicts the color of pixels based on the words in the prompt which have been previously associated (trained) with works of art. I...
