No, that's not what I'm saying. Those words aren't. But how Wotc presents them (including art) is IP. But like Morrus is saying, if you're using Fair Use (assuming it qualifies as fair use), then it's kinda moot since it doesn't matter. And I don't think any monster is technically PI (maybe...

We have lost another Industry bright spot

Sadly, Andy Watkins, known to most of us as Cosmo Joe (CEO of Phoenix Con and Studio 6d6) passed today from injuries suffered in an accident. My heart goes out to his family, close friends, and fellow workers. He was one of the good ones. If there is any sort of fundraiser that comes out, I...

RPG Buzzwords that have effectively lost their meaning due to poor over-use

Oh, +100. As we gamers age, this is a constant moving target. For me, who started in 1981, modern is WotC on. Which is weird, because it's been almost 30 years now. Just like how it's hard to believe Lord of the Rings movie is 25 years old now...

    5E24 Product Identity

So basically, I guess my answer would be "everything not in the SRD is product identity". It's either something WotC created, or they have a unique presentation of something that may be public (copyrighted material including images and text).

google search. But it looks like it's a few years old, so probably not up to date with 2024.

    5E24 Product Identity

I would think the answer is in two parts. This is a list I found, but don't know how updated it is: Part 1: Anything created by TSR/WotC is protected IP. Part 2: Anything not created by TSR/WotC (like Banshee or Yeti) is not protected IP unless you're using copyrighted illustrations or text...

Not to sound flippant (not my intent), but I'd suggest asking a lawyer and not the internet.

Agency. I see that tossed round all the time. Problematic. Another one I see used in just about every discussion ever. (and I'm just as guilty lol)

It is. I have a somewhat related conversation going on in discord because we noticed that several folks are using the same image of Stock art on DTRPG. Stock art is great for small publishers with small budgets (and even mid-sized publishers), but boy, it sure does make it hard to stand out...

Green Ronin Crowdfunding Legal Defense Fund In Fight Against Diamond Distrubutors

Oh, 100% here as well. I'm not even close to being an expert here, but I'm smart enough to know what I don't know-- that I don't know the processes and details of this situation hardly at all. I'm 100% hoping GR and others get some relief and my opinion is that Diamond is doing a pretty jerk...
