    D&D 5E (2024) Pax West 2023 - Acq Inc in Greyhawk

I think they've implied another setting release (whether single book or slipcase) next year, and given it will be the 50th anniversary, either Greyhawk or a proper Forgotten Realms guide would be my guess. Furthermore, as others have noted, the '24 DMG is said to contain a "sample setting"...

D&D 5E (2024) Half Race Appreciation Society: Half Elf most popular race choice in BG3

Moon elves are also known to have silver hair on occasion, so the claim that silver-hair is explicitly the reason for making the character a drow is dubious - particularly since the same description could also reasonably describe many generally elderly people whose hair color has faded just as...

    D&D 5E (2014) Will Baldur's Gate 3 Change D&D?

Honestly, if Larian were to do another game based on a D&D IP, I think they might actually have the chops for a new Planescape game. Probably not a true sequel to Torment, per se, since the story of the Nameless One is pretty definitively concluded and should be left alone, but something in the...

D&D 5E (2014) Should Planescape split Olympus and Arvandor into separate Layers of Aborea?

Honestly, I'm of the opinion that gods (and their divine servitors, angels) generally shouldn't have alignments. Much easier to use figures like Zeus and Odin if you don't need to reconcile some of their actions in IRL mythology with whatever flavor of "Good" alignment they've been assigned, and...

D&D 5E (2014) Should Planescape split Olympus and Arvandor into separate Layers of Aborea?

Same mythology, but the Aesir/Vanir had a devastating war with each other at one point (IRL lore that has been more or less completely lost, but is referenced in at least one story we do have), so while they're allied now, that wasn't always the case. A quick look at an FR wiki also pulls up a...

D&D 5E (2014) Should Planescape split Olympus and Arvandor into separate Layers of Aborea?

They're essentially just two different divine realms, and if the top layer of Ysgard can contain Asgard, Vanaheim, Alfheim, and Jotunheim (very much a non-exhaustive list), I see no real reason why Arvandor and Olympus can't coexist as neighbors in the top layer of Arborea. Infinite planes, et al.

Planescape Planescape Pre-order Page Shows Off The Books!

So far as I've heard, Celestial Eladrin are still a thing, at least as of Mord's Tome of Foes - it's supposedly mentioned in the Elf chapter that Feywild Eladrin (and through them basically all standard elves) are descended from fallen Arborean Celestial Eladrin, though I'd need to double check...

D&D 5E (2014) Player consent required -spoilers for new adv book

Pretty much this. The DM is expected to read the adventure they plan to run, whereas the players are emphatically not, and so all they're doing here is letting the DM know in advance and in no uncertain terms about something they will almost definitely want to go over with their players in...

Planescape Planescape Pre-order Page Shows Off The Books!

Musteval was presumably drawn from the family name Mustelidae, since their appearance was originally described as ferret-like in the 3e Book of Exalted Deeds. Honestly, not sure why a rename was necessary, even with the decision to lean into the mouse-like appearance of the original artwork...

Planescape Planescape Pre-order Page Shows Off The Books!

That would implicitly confirm that the Transcendent Order is still operating, whether Rhys is formally their Factol again or not. Brings us up to four Factions we can reasonably assume to be in the new version of Planescape: the Fated and the Fixers (via Golden Vault), the Incantifers (via the...

D&D 5E (2024) Half Race Appreciation Society: Half Elf most popular race choice in BG3

Jhor'guntaal very much still play into the "bridge between two peoples" angle, but apart from House Medani and the sporadic first-generation types, Khoravar generally do not. They see themselves as a distinct people native to Khorvaire, separate from their human and elven ancestors who...

D&D 5E (2024) Half Race Appreciation Society: Half Elf most popular race choice in BG3

Other settings handling mixed ancestry poorly in the past is reason to fix how those settings handle mixed ancestry going forward. Not to strip mixed ancestry from them all, especially the one setting that handled it well.

D&D 5E (2024) Half Race Appreciation Society: Half Elf most popular race choice in BG3

And so the only viable alternative is a world where no one can play a mixed ancestry character at all? Because that's functionally where we're heading. Retaining distinct single ancestry mechanics while turning mixed ancestry into an aesthetic choice effectively means eliminating mixed ancestry...

D&D 5E (2024) Half Race Appreciation Society: Half Elf most popular race choice in BG3

I still don't understand why "Well, we can't condone min-maxing" is a suitable justification for not even trying to develop a system for mixed character ancestries.

    D&D 5E (2024) The new warlock (Packet 7)

And how, pray tell, does that support major, mid campaign character development that completely changes the character's story arc moving forward? A formerly non-religious character who finds religion and becomes an devout agent of their new god? A warlock who reneges on their pact and begins to...

    D&D 5E (2024) The new warlock (Packet 7)

Not all character concepts map 100% to a single class/subclass, and in game character arcs can very much alter a PC's trajectory in ways their initial class/subclass choice may not support.

    D&D 5E (2024) The new warlock (Packet 7)

Setting aside the broader issues re: the invocations, I don't think the lack of ritual casting is really a problem anymore. Check the Ritual Casting section of the Playtest 7 glossary - page 52, I think. As long as you have the spell prepared and it has the Ritual tag, you can cast it as a...

D&D 5E (2024) Half Race Appreciation Society: Half Elf most popular race choice in BG3

To be fair, there are other options tagged as Legacy Content that aren't part of Volo's Guide/Mord's Tome of Foes - the Changeling and Shifter from Eberron, for example, as well as the Centaur, Minotaur, and Satyr from Theros - and that amount is certain to grow when the '24 revamp hits...
