    D&D 5E (2024) How did I miss this about the Half races/ancestries

This whole thread has me sad for the future of D&D, and sad for the future of humanity.

    D&D 3.x The Red Avenger

I started playing D&D with the 3.5E, so learning about the quirks of the original 3E and its supplements is fascinating. I don't have any examples myself to add, but will come back if I think of any.

D&D General How would you redo 4e?

Max bonus based on level, or perhaps tier?

D&D General How would you redo 4e?

Intriguing ideas. Warlock definitely isn't my favourite class in 5e, but as a retool of 4e it could be a decent blueprint. So, as a start, what might a 1st level Fighter look like under this new model? Then move on to the other "big 4" classes if you have the time.

D&D General How would you redo 4e?

There's actually two potential projects: A redo of 4e that's for the fans of 4e. A redo of 4e that's more for bridging the gap between people who enjoyed 4e and those you tried it, didn't hate it, but still felt it wasn't for them. I'd definitely check out 2 over 1, but that's just me. Could...

What's the problem with five room dungeons?

I've tinkered with the idea of a one room dungeon. The single entrance/exit leads to the same room again but altered based on how the previous version of the room was interacted with. It might be too much of a mind screw to run properly though.

D&D General Some Thoughts on Historical Edition Changes, and What that Portends for OneD&D

Maybe the real edition changes were the friends we made along the way.

D&D General If not death, then what?

Death doesn't have to be the end. Have the characters wake up in the afterlife. Then they have to find a way back to life through a different kind of adventuring.

D&D General Supposing D&D is gamist, what does that mean?

Yeah, I should have thought of Schrodinger's Object instead of using the term retcon. My bad. So um...sorry to...the universe? Yeah that'll cover everyone..I think...

D&D General Supposing D&D is gamist, what does that mean?

OK, so do the players say "we want an ooze monster this time", or would the GM start with that themselves and extra details like the creature's origin get fleshed out by the players?

D&D General Supposing D&D is gamist, what does that mean?

Wow, we're still on the inventory thing? A few people corrected my assumptions on it a while ago. I still prefer a different way, but I now understand better why it is the way it is. Can we just conclude that blades in the dark is not for me and move on? I think the same publisher has...

D&D General Supposing D&D is gamist, what does that mean?

Thank you as well. Not as bad as I thought previously. So do some items take multiple slots?

D&D General Supposing D&D is gamist, what does that mean?

Thanks for the non-hostile correction. If there are restriction that make sense, then it wouldn't be as bad as I initially thought. I'm open to being corrected if it's in a nice way. I still don't have interest in BitD for other reasons, but at least my mind can relax a bit on this one...

D&D General Supposing D&D is gamist, what does that mean?

To clarify, I never said the game or the people playing it were not serious. That's a certain someone adding extra words to what I stated. And I'll concede the point that retroactively having a small hand held tool is not enough to ruin the whole experience for me. What I would find...

D&D General Supposing D&D is gamist, what does that mean?

You have a better way with words than I ever could.

D&D General Supposing D&D is gamist, what does that mean?

Yeah, I know that. I just like the feel of advancement happening between adventures versus in the middle of one. Other people want their cool new stuff right away, but I like that some training/study took place to get it.

D&D General Supposing D&D is gamist, what does that mean?

I think you're focused on the wrong detail. It's the timing that bothers me. The fact the non-descript items suddenly materialize into the exact thing the character needs in that moment is what feels like a retcon. If magic is involved, perhaps I could accept it but otherwise it rubs me the...

D&D General Supposing D&D is gamist, what does that mean?

Good point, and I would grudgingly accept it as a player. As a DM however I'd incorporate in the downtime between adventures at least an offhand mention that some magical study took place before the level up. I'm not really a fan of leveling up mid-adventure either.

D&D General Supposing D&D is gamist, what does that mean?

It may be a silly point to you, but it would bother me greatly. I'm sure there are some things in other games that bother you that I'd be fine with. I've not heard one person say anything to the effect of "if you don't like that part of the game, just replace it with something you're more...

D&D General Supposing D&D is gamist, what does that mean?

That's a good thing to hear. Any game that doesn't allow some tinkering for the individual table is definitely not for me. I like when groups make the game their own. Maybe house on fire was a bad analogy. Perhaps a leaky pipe in the basement is better? It'll eventually flood if you do...
