Anatomy of a 20 Level campaign

With all the talk of high level campaigns and the Beyond data analysis I thought people might like to see the anatomy of our current campaign! We play once a fortnight like clockwork for between 6 and 8 hours, do the odd day long session when we are all off work at the same time (we all have...

tail wags dog: streamers want to say 'aaargh' so we are getting a pirate adventure

You think you can tell if an entire roleplay game suits a stranger's playstyle by one post on the internet?

tail wags dog: streamers want to say 'aaargh' so we are getting a pirate adventure

I don't suffer it because I don't watch it but I can't avoid the change in emphasis in Adventures League module writing. And I guess the point is that the OP is concerned that this change in emphasis will bleed into the hardcovers.

tail wags dog: streamers want to say 'aaargh' so we are getting a pirate adventure

I am the OP's friend with the theory! Context: I own every published physical 5th edition product so far and l have them all on Beyond. I have played in or run every AP so far and am currently DMing DotMM (Level 14), run a 9 table Adventurers League night, co-host a D&D (not actual play)...

    Information on 2019 releases?

I listened to an older Dragon Talk yesterday with an interview with RA Salvatore were the hosts pretty much confirmed that there is a Pirate themed product in the offing. Add that to the Wizkids ship, the last UA and lots of other things and it points pretty firmly to a 2019 piratey book.

4.33 Years in: What Now for 5E? (and have we reached "Peak Edition?")

I am the complete opposite! The lack of meta plot means it's a much more usable book. It can be played in sequence sure but it can also be chopped up and used as you see fit which excactly what we need at the moment imo.

D&D 5E (2014) What Does the Game Need Now?

Me too! Try Riddle of the Raven Queen for the Shadowfell and The Lich Queen's Begotten for the Astal in the mean time, they're both on the DMsguild and very good. Also, there's a little bit of something somethig hidden in DotMM but I'll say no more....

    Drinking Contests

There's a really cool drinking competition with an eating competition and test of strength etc in DDAL05-10 Giant Diplomacy! Worth a look.

    Having Trouble As A DM

Tomb of Annhilation set in Chult in the Forgotten Realms has a lot of cool coastal/piratey stuff in it including a ready made Port (Port Nyanzaru) which happens to be the best location yet made for 5e in my opinion! Could have a look there!

First Impressions – Guildmasters Guide to Ravnica

My characters are Level 10 and have so far: Started in the Nether Mountains (The Keep on the Borderlands) Travelled to Avernus (Random Planescape module from the Well of the Worlds) Explored the North (random third party stuff and bits of Storm King's Thunder) Moved to Everlund (Bard's Gate from...

WotC President Chris Cocks Talks Magic and D&D

Nah not really, partly because no one outside of Wizards has the specifics but mainly because I'm not bothered. All I wanted to do was point out the stupidity of the narrative that in the face of positive news says 'aw man, they're messing up and killing x or y or z'. They're not, they are...

WotC President Chris Cocks Talks Magic and D&D

The plural of anecdote is not evidence. We just went from 7 to 8 tables and having people approaching us to DM. With regards to the way Gygax wanted to game to be played, I would estimate that around 6 of our 60 players have heard of him.

Or could it be that they are calling for DMs because of the level of demand? Spoiler: it is.

D&D 5E (2014) Waterdeep: Dragon Heist - Which Season is the Best Story Arc? [Spoilers]

Cassalanters is the darkest and has the least effect on the metaplot if your players kill them so I went with that.

Pulling Off a Dragon Heist in Waterdeep: The Review

Very good and fair review. With regards to whether this is a primer for Urban campaigns, it doesn't specifically say 'do x or y' but it is very transferrable and usable. It works as a module and a source book like SKT in a way the OotA doesn't in my opinion. Travelling in the North Sword...
