    D&D 5E (2014) Sell me on Wizards

It certainly might, I'm interested to see how it plays out; if you look at any other ed of D&D (4e excepted, for obvious reasons) this is 1/4 or less of the slots level 7-9th AND plus you need to use these same rare slots to make your lower spells (e.g. fireball) relevant. It's such a drastic...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sell me on Wizards

Yeah it's an easy caveat to miss, you are not the only one.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sell me on Wizards

Arcane Rec only allows lower-level slots up to 5th. I'm specifically 'worried' about 7th-9th.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sell me on Wizards

No, 11th level Ftr can attack 6 times per round before/without using bonus action or reaction or accounting for possible TWF, haste, magic items, etc. This is using Action surge (once per short rest). And I only single out Ftr for convenience, other martials have mean stuff too, not saying Ftr...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sell me on Wizards

I think the 5e Wiz is a solid (i.e. average or middle-tier) class at low-mid levels. What remains to be seen, what I fear, is that the poverty of high -level slots was 'a nerf too far' (late in the playtest). One single 7th level spell that can fizzle when the Fighter is attacking 6 times per...

    D&D 5E (2014) 'Once per turn'

The Marilith demon's reaction power really illustrated this for me - it only makes sense in the context of 'one turn' being each entity's turn i.e. there are multiple turns per round.

D&D 5E (2014) Spells: the Good, the Bad, and the Downright Orcish Grandmother

JFYI - wizards oddly cannot cast Earthquake, whereas Sorcerers can ... almost seems like it could have been a mistake ...

D&D 5E (2014) Ending a Bar-Room Brawl in one turn (for values of "Ending" that may actually be "Escalating")

Hell yes :) How does the attack work though. Improvised weapon? I think I'd ask for a Shove check against both, and if the player wins, improvised weapon dmg to both opponents.

    D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk 5e

Your first decision with GH IMO is to pick one of the main timelines, so as to avoid confusion as you read the various setting fluff. Going off memory: 1) Pre-GH Wars: original Greyhawk boxed set, several AD&D modules (e.g. Temple of Elem Evil), GH City boxed set 2) GH Wars: appears to be what...

D&D 5E (2014) What Spells are Going in Your Spellbook?

Gotta agree on Hypnotic Pattern and Banishment (and must admit I had not noticed how nasty this is now - I'd just assumed it only worked on Outsiders! Nice catch!). Blindness is saved by being non-Concentration as you state. Slow ... while you may be right, I'm very leery of 'real-world'...

D&D 5E (2014) Would you buy an updated PHB every year?

IMO they should implement a searchable 5e SRD like d20pfsrd, with the core mechanics (at least). This SRD is updated and has the latest fixes. So even if you're gaming mostly with books, you can quickly search the SRD if you suspect something has been altered, etc. It's easier than scanning a...

D&D 5E (2014) I LOVE 5th Editon... BUT... (Why No Simple Table of Rituals?) And Other Little Quibbles.

I'm fairly positive on the art, but I agree with the whole 'glaringly obvious effort to be PC' reflected in the illos. For good or ill, D&D was most definitely not PC back in the day ;)

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition -- Caster Rule, Martials Drool?

Then we'll have to agree to disagree, on all fronts. Play the game you like (4e?) etc. I like this D&D, I think balance looks OK albeit asymmetrical, casters took a serious nerf from 3.x but still look decent, but clearly (which was my point) there's no way to please everyone with one game...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition -- Caster Rule, Martials Drool?

I'm listening, I just don't how that solves the problem of "Fighter can't teleport across continents so it's not equal" - must you not, for true options balance, either remove the caster's ability to teleport continents OR give that ability to the fighter? Because, if you give the fighter some...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition -- Caster Rule, Martials Drool?

I see 2 ways to make fighter options = caster options so everything is fair: 1) reduce the PHB spell section to 16 different spells total, so it roughly = # fighter maneuvers. 2) give fighters a list 100 maneuvers that can do all the stuff spells can. And that's cool ... that game would not...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition -- Caster Rule, Martials Drool?

Massive experience playing wizards across all eds (I only play wizards and rogues) mostly. Thanks for reminding me about Concentration - built-in switch to shut down any caster who is proving annoying*. DMs I play for will use it, plus ensure you never get many 5MWD ;) I've seen DMs who don't...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition -- Caster Rule, Martials Drool?

Casters are no threat to outshine in this edition. Few spells slots of higher level, non-autoscaling spells, generally nerfed spells, lower save DCs ... Maybe if every day was a 5MWD, OK, perhaps.

    D&D 5E (2014) Which class(es) won the PHB?

In a sense they have the largest selection, in a sense the smallest. I've played for DMs that do not provide many scrolls/spellbooks or scribing downtime. Just felt the need to point that out, as I wonder what the designers' assumptions were for that. I think the Rogue (one of my 2 fav...

D&D 5E (2014) Criticizing the new edition of D&D (because I like it a lot)

I haven't play tested high levels, but this matches my expectations based on reading 5B. Concentration is a huge problem for casters, many spells have been nerfed, and slots above 5th level are very, very few. It's not a problem for me as the casters are still fun to play, but I do chuckle at...
