    D&D 5E (2014) Spell & Crossbones

Hugo Van Haan "I'll join you momentarily," Hugo said as Katerina left the room. His repreive from politics was short-lived. The time he desired to dedicate to his thoughts would wait. He took a puff of his pipe and smiled up at the man introduced as Barrington. "Captains aren't kings until...

Quickleaf, I fixed everything but the expertise. Once I have the book in front of me an remind myself what expertise does, I'll update it. This is all on our Rogue's Gallery.

    D&D 5E (2014) [Spell & Crossbones] Rogues' Gallery

(Pretty Version) Hugo Van Haan Background The delegation to The Hague out of Noord from Rotterdam was once headed by Fredich Gaalmayer, a dwarf of status and an equal measure of kindness and loyalty to his staff, servants, clerks and various hangers-on. Chief among the hangers-on was Hugo Van...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spell & Crossbones

Hugo swings out of his chair and walks into the private room. How fortunate to have both work and possibly a ship acquired all in one day, God must smile upon their work and desires some item rescued from the warm waters. All was a mystery, but it was a mystery with some meaning, some...

When du Tourbillon returns, Hugo rises and takes a glass of the brandy offered by Badouin. He clicks his glass against Old Zef's. "To steady waters and bags full of money, you old cripple," he says with a smile as he downs the golden liquid.

"Bah. Seems he's other reasons. If we weren't able to procure a boat, he'd be as strung-up as we. Unless he's making this a bidding contract - as in 'first to procure a set of sails procures the advance as well' - then it would make more sense. No insult intended, but if I were to hire a bunch...

Not a problem. I wouldn't even mind the equivalent of petty officer and a lesser share. And I like the idea of serving under Blackheart and watching the man's little girl (in Hugo's eyes) come into her own.

"Hmph, not at all!" Hugo's wide grin made his eyes squeeze shut. He takes a seat across from the newcomer, leaning forward. "Should we sail together I'd like you to teach me, if you could be so troubled.... Tell me, have you sailed the Bengal? And what of the African horn? Have you met pygmies?"

    D&D 5E (2014) Spell & Crossbones

Hugo Van Haan Hugo stands and offers with an upturned hand the seat Badouin indicates. "Please... I am Hugo Van Haan" he says with a plunging bow limber enough to near bring his belly and beard to the wood floor. First, he nods to Old Zef, "this is my grandfather, he needed an escort to be...

So the first time we have an open roll by the DM, it's a d100. The first time a d100 is rolled, it's a 1. We're screwed.

"Watch your tongue, pup..." Kowl says in a low growl, glancing back at the halfling.

"The ratkin's got it right. We ought to have a bit up front for expenses," said Kowl. "Not to mention we get nothing if we die out there. I want something to leave me mum." Kowl looked about the bar, daring anyone to besmirch the idea of leaving something for his mum.

Hugo Van Haan "It would seem you have the floor, Missen du Corazon," said Hugo with a shrug and a smile toward the woman he presumed would fashion herself his new Captain. "Careful not to make servants out of us."

    D&D 5E (2014) Spell & Crossbones

Hugo Van Haan "Most negotiations begin with a clear advantage to the silent party, which we are to this point. He's undercutting, giving a price he can get away with for a charter and a crew of slaves or prison escapees," said Hugo, wiping the inside of the clay cup with a handkerchief and...

Well that's too bad. I know we'll see you around. Hopefully by the time I run my game you'll be ready (if you're willing). It's in the IC post, but it's as good a description as there is: "His coat was green, but subtle enough to miss being garish. The silver buttons were recently cleaned and...

Also, Hugo is drinking the brandy because he has terrible impulse control, he saw Old Zef do it, and brashly feels like the deal is already done anyway. Hugo's a complicated character with several vectors and decisions that all end up with him consuming something he probably shouldn't.
