Sneak Peek At Ghosts of Saltmarsh Maps

Poster map? Pull-out map? Map across 2 pages? Maps in WotC products are already way too small. I can't image doing what you are suggesting in portrait on a single page. Only other thing I can think of is split the map in half and arrange the halves top-bottom. I don't like solution at all...

D&D 5E (2014) What is your definition of a Vanilla setting

That FR is a kitchen sink makes it vanilla - it doesn't have any unique qualities or features. You can certainly run Greyhawk that way but as written, it's more politcal and the high fantasy/kitchen sinkness is toned down.

D&D 5E (2014) What Single Thing Would You Add

Is a new feat system one thing? I'd also take expanded weapon traits, especially crit ranges, to make the weapon chart more varied.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sword & Sorcery / Low Magic

Anything that doesn't use standard Vanician casting or standard level-based caster progression can be put under the umbrella of "low-magic". Sure, the style and world-building of LotR, Conan, Dying Earth, Lankhmar, Thieves' World, Black Company, etc, etc vary widely. The low-magic label is quite...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sword & Sorcery / Low Magic

S&S and low-magic have many more similarities than not, especially when discussing rules and mechanics. No reason to not lump them together for ease of discussion. The "grittiness" of LotR vs Conan comes from the scale of the heroes vs the threats and challenges, not from a distinction of the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sword & Sorcery / Low Magic

It was not sarcasm. What you described is no fault of bounded accuracy, and I would still argue that 5E can be run without magic items or feats. However, I will agree that's not ideal. 5E's problems are mainly due to a grossly unbalanced feat system and lackluster monster design. So when the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sword & Sorcery / Low Magic

Yes. Again, 5E also has done some of the work with paths and half-casters. The path system is a step towards the Modern character progression already as it's an "a la carte" suite of features. D20 Modern/Grim Tales just opened it up even more. The 5E feat system would need to be reworked...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sword & Sorcery / Low Magic

@tetrasodium Care to explain your reaction? Just curious. It's much easier to keep the power scaling under control in 5E than 3ed was.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sword & Sorcery / Low Magic

I agree!!! The one good thing 5E has in its toolbelt is that bounded accuracy is very conducive to a low-magic setting and feel.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sword & Sorcery / Low Magic

This topic comes up once in a while. There are other threads you can search for and read. My short answer is to do low-magic in 5E, you have to decide on one of two ways: 1. Use the rules as-is* Enforce the setting through role-playing and world-building: casters are extremely rare, magic is...
