    D&D 5E (2014) High-level no-save spells in practice

By the standard, consistent, and easy to understand rules we use, which go all the way back to third edition, it's pretty obvious you can't force cage a Tarrasque.

D&D 5E (2014) (CR ratings) Could 6 level 6 characters survive and beat a Young Blue Dragon?

There's heaps of reports of level 4-5 groups dropping the Green Dragon from LMoP, but also many reports of groups losing a few PCs too. It can certainly be done. A party full on resources can take on things way above their CR, and that's basically proportional to how high level they are.

    D&D 5E (2014) Array v 4d6: Punishment? Or overlooked data

I've seen a Rogue with +7 to hit at level 1. Apparently rolled an 18, then +2 dex = 20 Dex at level 1. At level 5 after taking a level of Fighter and gaining a proficiency bonus, he had +10 to hit. Passive perception also something ridiculous like 19 at level 1, can basically spot all the traps...

    D&D 5E (2014) Array v 4d6: Punishment? Or overlooked data

When it comes to giving players choice, if 4/5 players don't mind either way, but 1/5 players has a strong preference to point buy, you should probably enforce point buy. I'm not going to be terribly pleased if there's a couple of other characters who end up with magically awesome stats, I've...

    D&D 5E (2014) Array v 4d6: Punishment? Or overlooked data

Maybe you should stop focusing on typography then and start focusing on topic? Whether you agree or disagree with him, your point is way off base. The fact that some people consider those of us who like to "min/max" as immature gamers is insulting enough as it is, without the need for peoples...

D&D 5E (2014) Crystal Ball: A year in, how do you think 5E will unfold going forward?

I'm sure there will be, and I'm sure D&D the TTRPG will be around for a long time yet, but I don't get the feeling people here are getting my point. Even if D&D the TTRPG sells really well, it's still becoming more and more niche. In the 90s, I'd say the majority of RPG gamers were playing a...

D&D 5E (2014) Crystal Ball: A year in, how do you think 5E will unfold going forward?

That's pretty good sales then, something to be proud of for a book TTRPG product. I wish I was seeing the effects of those sales more around here (Australia). Lots of interest in pathfinder still, but it's been much harder for me finding players for 5e than in the 3rd Edition era.

    D&D 5E (2014) Array v 4d6: Punishment? Or overlooked data

A friend of mine just rolled 12.11.13.11.12.10. We'd have the best party ever. I want to be the commoner! What will you play, the guard? Maybe a tavern wench? Or how about a really awesome baker? We can watch real adventurers who opted for point buy to come through the tavern, while we dream...

D&D 5E (2014) Crystal Ball: A year in, how do you think 5E will unfold going forward?

All valid points that I do not disagree with. I have no doubt that TTRPG's are growing, and that technology has helped in that regard. I am the same as you - a digital D&Der. I still don't think D&D is a thriving product however (whether it's thriving for a TTRPG is beside the point), and WoTC...

    D&D 5E (2014) Array v 4d6: Punishment? Or overlooked data

I just rolled 4d6 drop the lowest and got... 12, 11, 11, 13, 11, 13. Ugh. Now as the DM would you let me re-roll, or make me suffer with the most boring stat array ever for the next year in your campaign?

    D&D 5E (2014) Array v 4d6: Punishment? Or overlooked data

I've watched a few streams now where the DM's let the players roll 4d6 for stats. Sometimes it does lead to fun moments, banter, and roleplay, but also I've noticed some of the players who get 20's pretty quickly are quite overpowered even early on. In one stream I watched, one Rogue player...

D&D 5E (2014) Crystal Ball: A year in, how do you think 5E will unfold going forward?

It depends. It may be doing better, but is it capturing the market, or just becoming more and more niche? If D&D sells a million PHBs then it's doing well, if it sells 100,000 then it will fade into obscurity, unless it can tap into other markets. Even indie developers these days can sell more...

D&D 5E (2014) Just About Sick Of Darkvision.

Heh yep. If you do have a non darkvision player and you put out their only light source, life becomes very scary for them. They can literally only see a small band around them and have to fumble around in the dark with their token.

D&D 5E (2014) Just About Sick Of Darkvision.

We use Roll20 and dynamic lighting, and dark vision adds A LOT. One player who is a Drow can literally see twice as far as the other players, and conveys to them what is going on using Rarys Telepathic Bond. It adds another dimension to the game. It also makes it very powerful. Races that do...

    D&D 5E (2014) Detect magic and Gargolye

Edit: I've changed my mind. The lines are blurry on an animated skeleton.

    April's D&D Feedback Survey Results

The reason they're not popular in my group is no dark vision (except the deep gnome, which we haven't introduced yet).

    D&D 5E (2014) High-level no-save spells in practice

We will just agree to disagree shall we? I'm very much for clarity and consistent boundaries for my players to work with. They can rest assured whatever results they achieve are purely due to their efforts. The less DM "fiat" the better.

    D&D 5E (2014) Detect magic and Gargolye

There's also a spell, detect evil and good, which picks up a bunch of creature types. Can't remember which ones, but it's the standard group that those kind of spells detect.

    D&D 5E (2014) Array v 4d6: Punishment? Or overlooked data

Heh, I've been teaching my 2 yearold to count by rolling stats on d6s, mostly because the dots on a d6 dice forces her to learn counting instead of just memorizing numbers. We've rolled a ton of characters that would be god awful to play. I think I rolled 7-9's once.
