    Game Mechanics & Lore

Always. Otherwise you end up in a situation where you're playing a D&D Barbarian and thinking Conan the Barbarian, but the gameplay feels more like Order of the Stick  If I'm aiming for 'Sword & Sorcery', I'd use The Riddle of Steel or GURPS Conan in order to have a lethal game...

RPG Buzzwords that have effectively lost their meaning due to poor over-use

Great insight. Don't they call that Argumentum Verbosum or something?

D&D General Mike Mearls' blog post about RPG generations

There's a lot of "whirlpools in your waves": Conan was long identified as Sword & Sorcery, but his stories also included Horror and were also considered 'dark, grim & gritty' by many literary scholars (and fans). Adventure Fantasy & Epic Fantasy run right into each other with LotR. Your list...

The link is literally from the FR site. Sometimes the supernatural beings "travel", like how Asmodeus is in Greyhawk, the Realms and Golarion.

So you're done with D&D but still want to play D&Dish fantasy...

Sometimes finding new people is the best solution IME. But, I get that it isn't easy finding them. I used Meet-Ups and lurked Facebook to find new groups. Playing online (VTT or play-by-post) is another possibility, as well.

Itch.io is shadowbanning or deleting NSFW and LGBTQ content

But can you prove VISA & MC are SPECIFICALLY TARGETING the Queer content creators? I'm no lawyer but doing so would be extremely difficult - and equally expensive in court.

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

Having been in more than my share of street fights and done a little amateur boxing, nope. Evading attacks is far easier and far less taxing physically than actually throwing punches, grappling & kicking. Actually, wearing armor affects your overall speed and coordination, so yeah, if "realism"...

We can have rational discussion IF we choose to. If we agree on what terms mean and express our ideas as clearly as we can.

When "playing it wrong" is more fun

Well. If you're not having fun, there's also a chance your playstyle preferences don't match what the game or group delivers. It 'aint always the system. I've been there, especially regarding "sunk-cost" (PF ... M&M ... SR ...)

And D&D, which IME is more about roleplaying superheroes than adventurers.

Attributes Should Be a Guideline for Personality

I usually roleplay above-average charisma as the character being amicable, in most games that have the trait. Roleplaying high INT but low WIS usually presents as a character who lacks the insight to get the most out of being smart (the MCU's Iron Man comes to mind). I haven't played SW enough...

When "playing it wrong" is more fun

    1. You can play the game however you like 2. If your rule changes significantly alter how the game plays, you're probably playing the wrong game

Just ran into it on DTRPG: anyone have any experience with Shadowfinder? Looks tasty ... Is it just a PF bestiary conversion or a full rules hack?

D&D General Mike Mearls' blog post about RPG generations

Based on what data? Do you have a link? Among experienced players, who easily compose the majority of the hobby, there are usually very clear styles and "agendas" of gameplay. Ultimately, this comes down to your exact use of the term "agenda" as it applies to ttrpgs...

I knew you'd respond with those and based on the conversation I was having upthread, you're incorrect: The original description was "different approaches, different focus, different styles". None of the rpgs you listed fit that description, from a pure design perspective. They're all...
