Thundercats Are On The Move! Thundercats Are Loose! [Updated]

5e-compatible works. It's a fast system that's spawned some popular hacks like StarWars5e and Everyday Heroes.

GURPS Dungeon Fantasy: for groups that want deep characterization, fast gameplay (3d6, roll under skill), and a system that easily emulates any genre of fantasy Barbarians of Lemuria: for groups that want fast gameplay (2d6 + ability, roll 9+), narrative-driven action and a versatile DIY magic...

D&D General Mike Mearls' blog post about RPG generations

That's long enough to make my point ;) You can assume that, but it wasn't written that way. He was making an entirely different point you may have missed. And yes, there have always been other games, but there hasn't always been ttrpgs that played distinctly different than D&D.

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

If this were true, it wouldn't be as popular - marketing can only buy so much. The true beauty of D&D is GM Fiat: we can make the game do whatever our groups want to (within reason) and WotC can't change that (y)

OSR What's Your Best Drop-In Content For A Sandbox?

Two hours? I've been in parties that spent longer than that buying gear at the local market :ROFLMAO: How big is your "sandbox" (village, kingdom, hex)?

D&D General Mike Mearls' blog post about RPG generations

"Actual Play" has been a thing since at least the late 70's, long before the "5th Generation". You could argue the entirety of the OSR, with its focus on clearer, cleaner rules making the GM's job easier. I'd argue that there was a time when there weren't multiple alternative games with...

D&D General Mike Mearls' blog post about RPG generations

The 5th Generation is long overdue, especially after dealing with D&D 4e & 5e. Games that make the GM's task easier means more games being ran for more players: a win for the overall hobby (y)

Thundercats Are On The Move! Thundercats Are Loose! [Updated]

Sold. Been a TC fan since forever. Just hoping the system is fast and fun and has rules to create our own original PCs

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

Both are considered valuable assets in their industries, so not as trivial as you make them out to be. But I get it (y)

New Edition of Mutants & Masterminds Coming Soon, Playtest Launches at End of Month

The "balance" is in how the GM designs the actual campaign, so that each PC (regardless of power level) has some impact - not in every scene, but in the overall campaign. No game is going to make sure all the effects are equally effective. It's like chess: a pawn will never be as effective as...

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

Bookscan is just numbers and ICv2 just reports on those numbers. Can't refute numbers without alternative numbers - it isn't enough to just say "Trust me, Bro" :ROFLMAO: That's what your "article" is doing.

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

Oh it's an issue, whether you understand it or not https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PowerCreep And I just posted a thread from EnWorld with people complaining about D&D 2024's encounter design system. So you're purposely closing your eyes to something that is real, whether you want...

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

Sure there is: ICv2 and Bookscan. Most people that have access and study the numbers know the reality of things ;)

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

Depends on the system. There's been a wave of Metacurrency (Hero Points, Bennies, Inspiration) games that have given PCs the advantage over everybody and everything they face. Because some people can't stomach failure
  16. Theory of Games

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

Not using the example I provided (a 1HD commoner = 1-8 HP getting stabbed 10-30 times = an average of 40 points of damage = 20 stabs x 2 damage). That math doesn't add up to character survival, but humans in the real world survive surprisingly often. But again, using a Wound system might get...
  17. Theory of Games

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

But 1HD commoners survive deadly attacks all the time. You can waste a day watching and reading accounts of survivors who were stabbed 10-30 times and lived to talk about it. Just normal people surviving what would be 10-30d4 damage in most ttrpgs. This is why real combat cannot be simulated...

Except 5e started with: less than ten races and now it's over forty less than fifteen backgrounds and now it's over fifty less than fifteen classes and now it's over one hundred (with the subclasses) less than fifty feats and now it's over one hundred Power-creep involves everything that...
