    D&D 5E (2024) Backgrounds

Musician is really good, arguably too good to be an origin feat. If I did my math right, a 5/9 chance my sorcerer will get 5 or higher on his d6 when leveling up (and 3/4 to get 4 or higher). Also, reduces 33% chance of losing Wish to 11%. Also, increases odds of getting an epic boon via...

D&D 5E (2024) can people give themselves Heroic inspiration with musician feat?

Google “can you be your own ally”. AI response “Yes, you can be your own ally by practicing self-compassion.” Google: “does an ally include yourself”. AI: “No, you are not your own ally.” It’s a pretty good feat, so many players are going to want to use it on their own characters.

D&D 5E (2024) Counting the minutes to get the PHB 2024...

That would be fine. So long as there is some sort of crystal and musical instrument. My sorcerer hates carrying items and plans on using Presty for any needed M as well as his six second song to get heroic inspiration.

D&D 5E (2024) Counting the minutes to get the PHB 2024...

Will be at mine tomorrow when/where my weekly group plays. Can finally look over things I haven’t seen yet like the complete trinket table.

    D&D General Warlock vs Sorcerer

Versus 5.0, the divine soul is swimming in spells. Haven’t played yet, but planned out his spells 1-20 and he has room for Purify Food & Drink. So not exactly hurting. But if WOTC wants to dish more spells in some future update, that’s cool.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Spell Changes

“ACID SPLASH Evocation Cantrip (Sorcerer, Wizard) Casting Time: Action Range: 60 feet Components: V, S Duration: Instantaneous You create an acidic bubble at a point within range, where it explodes in a 5-foot-radius Sphere. Each creature in that Sphere must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw...

D&D 5E (2024) The changes to languages are a good start

Pretty much. I was planning on having my 5.5 character not know Common. He would rely on Comprehend Languages, Tongues, and anyone in the party that could translate. But since 5.5 characters have to know Common, that got put in the trash.

Evereskan finger talk too in Forgotten Realms.

D&D 5E (2024) The changes to languages are a good start

I think my fairy will know Sylvan growing up, contract Adventurer’s Disease, then be suddenly cured upon retirement. I also think drow have had a sign language for the past infinity years.

    D&D 5E (2024) Epic Boons Ranking

Here is the text from Wish: “Sudden Learning. You replace one of your feats with another feat for which you are eligible. You lose all the benefits of the old feat and gain the benefits of the new one. You can't replace a feat that is a prerequisite for any of your other feats or features.”

    D&D 5E (2024) Epic Boons Ranking

Truesight to see the true forms of creatures at the tavern. Folks who time their multiclassing right can take one at 19 and 20. Folks with Wish can potentially replace all their feats with epic ones at 19. If they have Musician, odds of losing Wish drops from 33% to 11%.

D&D 5E (2024) Learning to Love the Background System

For Adventurers League, players will have to go with what’s in the PHB, I’m assuming. Stuff being in the DMG won’t matter. I never play AL anymore, but I keep my characters AL-legal for balance, so as a player I’ll be ignoring what’s in the DMG, at least with respect to these potential...

    D&D 5E (2024) What's your favorite rule change?

What’s yours mellored? The old sorcerer capstone is at level 5. The new capstone is great. In retirement, my sorcerer should almost never have to cast a spell with V, S, or M. Tip-top etiquette.

D&D 5E (2024) Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth? - Languages in 2024

Just occurred to me that there’s nothing stopping my fairy from relearning Sylvan in retirement. Something to look forward to. That assumes the rare language loss thing afflicting adventurers isn’t some sort of incurable disease/curse.

D&D 5E (2024) Learning to Love the Background System

Background, Take 1 Dad: It’s too dangerous. Me: You adventured. Dad: Yes, but I always felt Lucky. Me: I’m going to be Lucky too! Dad: It’s not the same. You have to call it in advance for Titania’s sake. Me: I’ll be fine dad. As soon as I meet my party? Everyone gets a lock of my hair. Dad...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth? - Languages in 2024

If the 2024 PHB definition of Telepathy is the same as the playtest, so long as each party knows any language, they can communicate. So the Telepathic feat will be good to have in addition to Comprehend Languages and Tongues. I’ll just need to explain in my background why my fairy can no longer...

D&D 5E (2024) Learning to Love the Background System

It can also work the opposite way. If forced to take Wayfarer to get Lucky, I have to explain why my fairy has Stealth and thieves tools proficiencies. Okay. Some of my fairy’s friend were into role play, so he learned some breaking and entering techniques which included getting past locked...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth? - Languages in 2024

In both 5 and 5.5, the default starting number of languages and tools combined is 4. 5.5 states you get 3 languages and has restrictions for those. It also allows a “tool” through the background and allows for older backgrounds not in the 2024 PHB. Arguably, one could use a customized Folk Hero...

D&D 5E (2024) can people give themselves Heroic inspiration with musician feat?

2024 PHB: “A creature is your ally if it is a member of your adventuring party, your friend, on your side in combat, or a creature that the rules or the DM designates as your ally.” I think the RAI is that doesn’t include yourself.

D&D 5E (2024) Learning to Love the Background System

I’m down with the background challenge (Entertainer wins), but my fairy should know Sylvan. It will be his unofficial third language (in addition to Common and Elvish). No official third language in protest.
