Rethinking Alignment, Inspiration, and the Great Wheel

I've been thinking that having players declare a set of beliefs and see how well they stick to them would be better. For example, I had a cleric that was adamantly against anything involving necromancy or slavery. This actually caused some difficulties a few times, like when another player gave...

    D&D 5E (2014) homebrew subclass Rogue:Thug

I like it, seems really reasonable. I will note that I think Intimidation based on charisma totally makes sense to me. I've seen really big strong guys try to intimidate and fail because they just don't pick up on social cues. On the other hand, I've seen really small people with a lot of social...

D&D General At what level(s) do you start your D&D campaigns?

I love starting at level zero. Of course, it's always been homebrew, but I've enjoyed it both as a player and a DM. Maybe it's because it's like an interactive origin story and I've always enjoyed origin stories. To be honest, starting out powerful is kind of boring to me. However, having said...

DMs Guild Wizardly Goodies on DMs Guild

LOL! I have to admit, I'm getting used to it and it certainly does reinforce the idea that wizardly documents should only be readable by those who are truly dedicated to the craft. I do like the font in general. My one complaint might be X's. I honestly wasn't sure what the word"six" was in that...

DMs Guild Wizardly Goodies on DMs Guild

I'm downloading Wizard Spell Lessons now. I appreciate the work and the concept, so I'm definitely intrigued. The font choice, while great for flavor, is a bit much for extended reading. I kind of wish there was an option to get the same doc with a more standard font for quick reading and the...

D&D 5E (2014) What are your biggest immersion breakers, rules wise?

Magic everywhere. Magic just isn't magic in most D&D settings. If you were in a tavern and someone transformed into a giant spider and walked out the door you might spend the next few minutes arguing about how it was done but not a single person would even be startled. Too much magic makes magic...

    Legion, Season 3

I have loved the entire run of Legion start to finish and during most of the 2nd and 3rd season episodes one of us in the room would end up saying "this is the best thing I have seen in FOREVER." You can see the influences, particularly David Lynch. The difference though, is that David Lynch...

D&D 5E (2014) FIND STEED: Your Pony Has Opinions

I have to agree with OP, the steed or familiar is a real being and has its own personality. While it may be a spirit, it's not just a formless bag of nothing created for the caster, it's an independent living being that exists on another plane and probably has existed for much longer than the...

D&D General Killer klowns from outer space?

Following, because of awesome. :) Years ago I met a lady through friends that didn't balk when I suggested we stop in at comic book store. While there, I found out her comic book collection was cooler than mine and her favorite movie was Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Fast-forward, we're 14...

    [Indie Games] San Jenaro CoOp

I've got my copy of the Short Games Digest and I've gotten my money's worth just reading it. I love the game Clerics. The snarky tone is hilarious and the game looks genuinely fun to play. Looking forward to taking it to the local one-offs game group in the area.

"Clerics" in the co-op San Jenaro Short Games Digest Volume 1

Has anyone played this yet? I just read through the game and I love the idea. If you haven't seen it, it's a minigame with complete rules where the party is all clerics and the GM plays the fighter, rogue and magic user as well as all of the monsters and it's the Clerics job to keep them alive...

TSR The Making and Breaking of Deities & Demigods

My whole entry into D&D back in the early 80's was primarily inspired by my love of mythology, so this book was always my favorite. I remember having debates in high school about how some listing, or even some minor detail inside a listing, should have been done in our vast scholarly opinions...

Hypothetical: Art, Architecture and Copyright - Who has it?

Is it “permanently situated in a public place or building”,? I believe the laws are different according to where you are, but in some places if a photographer takes a picture in a public space it's their image. Primarily though, I would talk to the photographer in a reasonable manner and just...

Starter Traveller (Classic circa 1980's) is free at DTRPG

My group at the time thought the die in chargen aspect was hilarious, so we went with it. :) I think it also gets player a bit more used to the idea that character death is part of the game and can actually happen.

Starter Traveller (Classic circa 1980's) is free at DTRPG

Haha! I've been thinking about looking up Traveler recently. The main thing I remember about playing back in my ill-spent youth is that my first character died during character creation. After that I decided not to name my characters until after they were finished. I'm off to get my copy!

What songs make you think of DND?

Hawkwind and Led Zeppelin because of connections to Michael Moorcock and Tolkien, respectively.
