    New 3.xE Products in 2009

I'm right there with you. I can't wait for the 4th printing of the C&C PHB (I'm digging the look of the layout), the 3rd printing of M&T and the 1st printing of the Castle Keeper's Guide. Should be a good year for those of us looking to play C&C.

How do I handle: 2 players want same game, but won't play with each other?

I've had this problem in the past, and am kinda going through it now. One player in our group insists on playing every character as a joke character... to the point where he creates "broken," often ineffectual, characters in order to point out flaws in the game. What's worse is that he...

    Changeover Poll

I'm almost to the point of giving up on D&D too... which is kinda sad. 3.5, after 8+ years, has become a bit of a drag for me and 4th edition, after several sessions, did absolutely nothing for me. At this point I'm trying to convince some of my fellow geeks to play Castles & Crusades... and...

What rule system am i looking for?

Actually... this sounds a lot like Pendragon. I don't think you were looking for a low-magic game where everyone plays knights BUT it fits the bill for a lot of your listed criteria. ;)

    C&C: Why Different Challenge Bases?

Really?!?!? I hope not. I guess that I've gotten used to playing C&C over the last few years. Actually, I think my group picked up on how to do things right away and found the game to be much less complicated and more flexible than 3.5. If we have a nitpick with how the game...

    C&C: Why Different Challenge Bases?

If you're used to DCs, then use those. The only issue with adding or subtracting from 15 comes with saving throws... and that one is REALLY easy to do on the fly. 15 + the level of caster (for spells) or effecting creature (for poisons, breath weapons, petrification, etc). Example: If a...

    C&C: Why Different Challenge Bases?

Hey Obryn, As I wrote before, set the CB at 15 and have primes give a +5 bonus. It makes the game run so much better. If you want to stick with the C&C CB, start at 18 and have primes give a +6 bonus... though I think that sets the bar a bit too high against the players.

    C&C: Why Different Challenge Bases?

To be honest, I LOVE C&C and, at this point, prefer it to any other version of D&D but, at first, had some trepidations about it. The game begs to be houseruled and cleaned up in lots o' places. As for you, Delta, I'd say give it a shot with the D&D 3.5 DCs in place of CBs and try to get used...

    C&C: Why Different Challenge Bases?

Hey Delta, I use a Challenge base of 15 for your average difficulty task. As such, when rolling a d20, you need to roll a 15 or better. If using a Prime attribute you get a +5 to that roll. You also add your level to the your roll, unless you are doing something not associated with your...

Is 3.5 experience a sales renaissance?

Very true. My Saturday group is continuing our 3.5 Scarred Lands campaign. My Sunday group is about to start up a 3.5 Eberron or Forgotten Realms game and a Castles & Crusades game. For us 3.5/OGL gaming is the only option! I REALLY have high hopes for Pathfinder but, so far, have not been...

Is 3.5 experience a sales renaissance?

I know that I'm getting about a dozen books for D&D 3.5 this Christmas... so my wife and family are contributing towards any the possible "sales spike" in 3.X/OGL products. :)

    Green Ronin announces 3rd Era

Excellent idea! I'm sure this'll make those sticking with 3.5 happy.

    Best version of Eladrin?

I dig the Planescape eladrin (due, largely, to Tony Di Terlizzi's awesome art).

What motivated you to purchase splatbooks for 3e?

I'll admit to buying the Complete series of class books in order to have access to PrCs that would "ramp up" the power level of my PCs. It's funny because I NEVER liked prestige classes and felt that the designers should have developed a feat system that allowed characters to build their...

    OGL & GSL D&D variants?

I just copied and emailed your post to a bunch of people who won't play my variant rules (or can't play due to my inability to get an interested group together). It's nice to know that my work is appreciated! Thanks for the kind words and, hopefully, your group enjoys my houserules a lot.

Pramas: Does 4E have staying power?

I'm glad you feel that way... really. If you were gaming with one of my groups or the one that my brother is in, I'd feel bad for you because you would be in a tough spot as the ONLY person with any interest in playing 4th edition. Sadly, your assertion that "4E has removed the bad choices, so...

Pramas: Does 4E have staying power?

I guess my years of playing 3rd edition, Castles & Crusades, and the other d20 OGL games I have played (Conan, Iron Heroes, Mutants & Masterminds, and a few others) spoiled me. Each game covered the bases it needed to cover with the "core books". 4th edition didn't. For its time AD&D worked...

Pramas: Does 4E have staying power?

My group has played a few sessions using the PHB, DMG and MM for 4th edition and feel that the game is not complete. It feels like a rushed product with a dearth of "real" options for players. Yes there are lots of nifty powers and divergent paths for character classes, but these options felt...
