    Defining its own Mythology

1981 with Red Box D&D (the one before BECMI D&D). Palace of the Silver Princess was my first adventure. I ran it too. I'm familiar with 2e AD&D.

    On The Horrible Naming

Deities and Domains as the worst offenders, Could you tell me what the Travel Domain did easily? Diehard (Doesn't make it harder for you to die) Nimble Fingers et al (ish)

    Defining its own Mythology

Ok RC, let's try to get to the nub of the issue. What is the thing that is being removed by 4e that was supported by all the other editions? Or is it something that is being removed by 4e that was supported by 3.5 only that is the problem.

    Design & Development: Quests

That's not how I read (or would implement) this. I'd say it was a way of rewarding a Character for completing an objective - not an outcome. This objective can either be created by the Player to guide the game, the DM to guide the game, or both. I feel that you are trying to hard to read...

A "What if you're stuck with Golden Wyvern?" thread

Who taught the Wizard his magic? Their master was a "Golden Wyvern Adept", obviously. He may learn from other schools of magic - but that's later. It's the name of the Order his master belonged to. Now, we don't know for certain if Traditions are required of all Wizards (like the Generalist...

Adding another log. Lightning Panther Strike.

I disagree; Lightning Strike Golden Adept Dragon Cut All sound much better to me. And that's the point.

    Defining its own Mythology

Define D&D. Because OD&D isn't the same D&D as BECMI D&D, which was different to AD&D, which is different to 3.5 D&D and won't be the same as 4e D&D. In other words, no I don't think so. You don't like it, that's fine. But don't assume that people who the marketing for 4e does appeal to (like...

Races & Classes details from the WotC boards

Only, it's not in the Core Rulebook. It's in a book about "What we thought about while designing the races". We don't know what's in the core rulebook - it could be as simple as "The Dragonborn prefer to live in hot, arid climates - especially deserts"

D&D 4E Concerned with 4e now, do you agree or not?

My concern for 4e is equality of effects for Monsters and PCs. I don't care if the Orc and the Human have the same mechanics, just that they can achieve the same results.

    . . . while you're at it. . . Fix heavy armor!

It is also worth noting that there is significant argument over the relevant effectiveness of Plate Armour between scholars and historians. The Royal Armoury in Leeds (UK) have done tests suggesting (for example) that the Medieval Longbow could not penetrate Plate Armour at all and others have...

D&D 4E 3 months in and 7 to go - will YOU switch to 4e?

The games we have currently running will run til their end. With 3.5, however, that means wrapping up about 12th level when we start at 4th. I guess we'll run both for a bit, and carry on the one we like the most. We have ... 3 campaigns currently running. Only one will probably be still...

    D&D 4E Druids in 4E

'Nature' power source or 'Feywild' power source. Feywild, as described, appears to be 'Nature unbound' - more primal and wild than ... the Prime? What is the name of the 'normal world' that doesn't sound like 'the real world'

    . . . while you're at it. . . Fix heavy armor!

A cursory glance suggest that modern infantry carry gear weighing 60-100lbs. I assume that they, like medieval knights, can keep going for most of the day. The issues regarding armour are often overstated. ARMA (http://www.thearma.org/) are a good place to start.

D&D 4E On the set of 4E: the Beholder

Maybe, maybe not. 3.5 was full of them, remeber (fatigued, -2 str, -2 dex = a whole host of minor adjustments!, Bulls Strength, Enlarge, Bless, Inspire Heroics... etc.). So, if we assume that in any given round, a mid-level character in 3.5 had 3-5 Stat adjustments depending on who they were -...

    Warlords Heal?

It's not "healing" in the same way that a 100hp Fighter taking 40pts of Damage isn't really being "Injured" If said fighter isn't taking enough wounds to kill an Elephant, then Healing doesn't have to be literal either.

Will Wizards Still Lord it Up?

(My emphasis) huh, so what does everyone else do? Part of the issue with wizards is the idea that 1) Magic can do anything, and 2) Wizards can do magic Which leads to the Batman Wizard issue, namely at high levels magic can replicate and outperform all other classes. Thieves get dropped...
